Holiday Travel Plans: Do Your Pets Travel with You?

Sharing is caring!

You know we have this super sweet dog that we got over the summer, right?

Well, in case you do not know the story, my kids have begged for a dog for a couple of years. But…. I knew it would be a lot of work for me. Sure, at first he would be cute and fun but in no time I knew there would be debates over feeding him, walking him, cleaning up after him. I am sure you have been there. I really wanted the boys to be responsible enough to help with the responsibilities a dog would bring.

Well, one day my husband called me from a client’s house and told me they had this super sweet dog they had rescued from a convenience store… and the rest is history.

In the beginning I agreed to taking the dog in because our kids had been asking for years for a dog. I knew it would make them happy and I knew they were finally old enough to understand the responsibly owning a pet brings.

What do you know? I have fallen in love with this dog. McCoy is super sweet and protective of our family. He fit in from the word go. He is patient with the four year old- that says A LOT! He is so excited when I come home from the grocery store because he knows there are treats in the bag for him. He sleeps in our bed, which initially was off limits. We love him. And when we travel he goes with us. Even Grandma and Grandpa in San Anotnio like him.

That said, if he could not travel with us I have often wondered what I would do. This was not a concern I worried about until recently. Obviously I have heard of dog sitters, but I had no idea there was a service that would help me find a pet sitter in my area. They will watch your dog in your home or their home- you would never have to board again. (Rover.com has partnered with me to help spread the word about this amazing deal. The story is my own, the deal is super awesome too. Feel free to read my disclosure if you’d like.)

Have you ever heard of Rover.com? They have an online service that helps you find a dog sitter in your area. How cool is that? Super handy if you cannot travel with your sweet pup this holiday season.

Guess what? They have a Groupon deal allowing you to get 58% off your purchase! Seriously! That means you can get a petsitter for $35! But, you better hurry, the deal will not last forever.

It depends on where we are going whether or not the 60 pound boxer travels with us. If it’s business or we are not going someplace pet friendly, she stays home or at the kennel.

    1. Our dog has made two trips with us to San Antonio and he did really well traveling there and back. Our kids thought it was the funnest thing ever to have a dog in the car for 6 hours. He slept cuddled up right next to them.
