5 School Style Tips for Boys

Sharing is caring!

Raising a houseful of boys I am really pretty lucky. They are all very easy going when it comes to fashion.

While I like for our boys to look nice, and they want to look nice as well, they are very easy to shop for- which I am so thankful for.

Today I am going to share my top five easy back to school style tips for boys.

5 back to school style tips for boys

First of all, everyone starts the school year with a tight, tight fade hair cut.

Before church on Sunday’s and anytime we are leaving the house (we homeschool but still buy new clothes at back to school time thanks to the amazing sales) the boys spray their hair down with water, add some gel and comb it. Sometimes they spike it. Sometimes they do a little mohawk.

Tip 1: Start the season off with a good haircut. Yours doesn’t have to be short, but a nice cut does give an overall tidy look.

I love simple shirts that are interchangeable. These lightweight tees from Target are perfect!

They easily had 15 different color/pattern options to choose from.

These shirts go perfectly with shorts or jeans.

My boys can swap out shirts with each other. Nick can wear some of Luke’s shirts and Matthew is able to wear some of Nick’s shirts, so we switch things around and it seems like we have so many more style options.

I also love that shirts like this are generally on sale or have a promo running. These were $4.20 each!

Tip 2: Look for lightweight shirts that interchange easily with jeans or shorts!

Nick loves to wear a jacket tied around his waist.

Once the weather starts cooling off, it will be easy to add a hoodie jacket like this one to any outfit. If he gets hot, he just ties it around the waist.

Typically we only have about 6 weeks or so of really cold weather here in Texas. So a fun zip up hoodie like this with a pattern that is pretty neutral will be a go-to item for crisp mornings that turn into warmer afternoons.

This is a great way to get the most out of your everyday outfits- just add a jacket/hoodie.

Tip 3: Search for a neutral jacket or hoodie that can easily make an average outfit warmer.

My boys are super active.

Clothes that move with them is very important. If they are uncomfortable they are miserable!

After looking for promo items like the lightweight shirts, the next thing I do is hit the clearance and sales racks.

This week Target had most of their Shaun White line 30% off! This shirt was $7.70!

Every clothing item in these pictures was on sale. I paid full price for nothing.

And Target has a method. Everything goes on sale at some point. This is especially true during events like back to school. You almost can’t leave the store paying full price for anything.

Tip 4: Shop the sales and clearance racks! ALWAYS!

We love to have fun with patterns and designs. And this does not have to be done in an outrageous way.

While this outfit has a neutral base color that is gray, the stripes make it fun.

So, even though these shorts have the blue stripe running through them, the main color of the shorts is gray. This makes it so easy to change things up and use what I call interchangeable shirts to make the outfit different.

And that shirt is gray. Even though the stripes make it fun, this shirt will easily go with just about any color skinny jeans, which my boys all adore right now.

This is exactly how I shop on a budget but maximize my options!

Tip 5: Look for neutral base colors that allow you to play with pops of color but still make the clothing interchangeable for versatility.
