The month of February is a very special month for history books.

Black history month is a national observance for all of the wonderful historical African American figures who have impacted our American history so greatly. In case you didn’t know it Black history month has actually been celebrated since 1926. There are so many profound figures to be celebrated this month and a lot of history that your kiddos will find super interesting!

Check out these books that are perfect for kids about Black History Month that teach kids about inventions, science, medicine, and sports all contributed to by historical African American figures.

  1. These sound like great books. I think it’s so important for kids to learn about black history. It doesn’t have as big a place in school curriculum as the rest of history.

  3. I think that we should be teaching our kids about all our history. Good or bad they need to know so that they don’t make the same mistakes. These are some great books!

  4. Do all of these books have illustrations and drawings? I find that kids understand the story better when they see visual cues and not text all throughout the pages.

  5. This is a great list of books! Our country is great because of the many people who contributed to its success.

  6. This is a great books for my kids. I love teaching them about history because next year my first son was going to school.

  7. All of these are important people/bioks, would love for my child to learn about black history, or more specifically all history.

  8. What a wonderful list! I can pass this along to my kiddos teacher to look into when teaching about Black history! There are so many great lesson to be learned, great people in history, and wonderful stories in these!
