Blogging Tips: How to Use Pinterest to Grow Your Blog #learntoblog

Sharing is caring!

In April of this year Crystal & Co., will be five years old! It is so hard to believe the time, knowledge and dedication that have gone into this site.

After about 18 months of blogging I wanted help- someone that could show me the ropes and point me in the right direction. You reach a point where you feel like you’re spinning your wheels. I asked questions of many “big”Β  bloggers and in return I got crickets. No response to even simple questions. All blogging tips were top secret.

Then I met Kelli from 3 Boys and a Dog Β and she answered a few of my burning questions. She told me things to do in order to grow and I went off and did them. And then I came back. She would give me another task with more tips and assignments. I was a little worker bee.

Kelli and I have been a blogging team for a while now. We bounce ideas off each other, challenge one another, we set goals and achieve them. Β  Over time we have taken our blogs to another level. Both of us have had posts go viral multiple times and I have shared tips about how I am getting traffic to my site with 140,000 pageviews a month. We are a tribe.

We are not keeping our tips a secret. We are spending Tuesday’s over on Google+ doing a hangout at 10:00 am central time each week sharing our pointers. Last week we gave Twitter advice . This week we are teaching you how to grow your blog with Pinterest. Everything you need to know is in the following video. It is all the stuff that has worked for us. (Next week we focus on Facebook. )

    1. Barb- I am just recently embracing Google+. I am the first to admit that it can be hard to jump on all of the technology wagons, but they all have a benefit for blogging in one way or another.

  3. I have been spinning my wheels and I am so glad I found this. I started a blog in 2010 and was doing well and then I got pregnant and sicker than a dog and gave up on it. I would post a few things here and there but nothing consistent. Well, I am back and I am stuck because so much has changed and I no longer have as many visitors. πŸ™ Thanks for sharing your secrets!

  4. I think it is so great that you are trying to help others grow their blogs. I just started blogging recently and I sometimes feel overwhelmed like it is never going to take off the way I am hoping. It is so good that there are people like you willing to help. Thanks so much.

  6. I have five boys also!! Its a crazy life, as you well know! Just found you on TipJunkie link party. Looking for ways to grow my blog. Thanks for the ideas!

  7. Thank you for sharing this we are trying to get more traffic to our blog and are very much beginners.

  8. I’d like to know more about SEO and tagging. I use windows live writer and don’t know which tag provider to choose. It says you can add custom tag providers. Is there a way to add tags that will be found on Pinterest? I want to tag my posts, but I’m just not sure exactly what I am supposed to be doing.

  9. Thanks! This was very helpful. I will be putting your tips to use. Can I ask how to change image descriptions (so it doens’t show up as a string of numbers in Pinterest?) I know this was mentioned in the video and I can’t figure out how to change it.

    1. Helen- happy to hear this is helpful.

You need to go into the image on your site and give it a name in the description area. I see you are on Blogger. So go into that post and edit that pictures description and then going forward it will be there when people Pin it. Make sense?

      1. Yes, that makes sense. Thanks!

  10. oh my word! I am so thankful to you for doing this! This is so what I need. I so look forward to your help on Tuesdays… I guess I’ll have to figure out google + now too… so far I haven’t used it, only linky friends, but I really don’t think people use that very much. Thank you !!! Little Bit

    1. Awesome. Glad you find it helpful.

I have had my Google+ account for a long time, but rarely used it. Now with these hangouts Kelli and I are growing addicted.

See ya on Tuesdays!! (let’s make sure you and i are following each other so i can ensure you get an invite each week.)

  11. Questions: What would the steps to organize a collaborative pinterest board? Here’s what I am thinking, but not sure if this is the right way:
    1. Create a board.
    2. I am wondering if it would be a good idea to email the bloggers I want to pin in this board and let them know you are creating a board and want them to pin, and that really soon they will get an email from Pinterest with an invitation to pin to that board. Maybe make it all nice and cool, and tell them about the benefits of this (especially those that you mentioned in the video)?!
    3. Invite them to pin.

Is that a good order to organize smth like this?

Thank you for the awesome video. So full of awesome ideas!

    1. You are right on with the steps to organized a collaborative Pinterest Board.
Yes, create the board you want and start by asking bloggers who you might think would benefit from being on the board to join in. Let them know that you created this board and would like them to join in and pin to that specific topic. Be careful just randomly inviting people because it is happening so frequently these days that an invite is almost seen as spam.

      Good luck!

  12. Thank you so much for this video! It was great information!

  13. Gail Gardner says:

    Hi Crystal,

I’ve been sharing this post and video and finally got the chance to watch the whole thing. Two things you mentioned that we need additional details on. Maybe you have posts about these?

    1) How are you watermarking your images?
    2) Do you have a good post about Linkies? Outside the “mom” blog niche we don’t use Linkies.

I still can’t figure out why pinterest is busy on Saturdays, but I’ll take your word for it.

    1. Hi Gail- what an honor to know you came by to watch our blogging videos. Kelli and I look up to your expertise so much and we appreciate everything you have done to guide us an mentor us.

I use picmonkey.com to watermark my images. It is a free photo editing service online. Very user friendly.

Here is my post on linky parties and why they are so great for mom bloggers: https://crystalandcomp.com/2011/02/50-places-to-search-for-and-share/

And I think Saturday mornings are so busy on Pinterest because people get up and they look for projects to do for the weekend. That is my very unscientific guess, but it makes sense.
