Arroz Con Pollo: A Chef’s Table Entree from Nutrisystem

Nutrisystem has a new kind of entrée. Maybe you’ve seen the commercials?

The entrees are called Chef’s Table and they use steaming technology. The food is incredibly fresh and amazingly delicious.

The Arroz Con Pollo is one of my favorites. Let me show you how easy it is to prepare.

When you take it out of the box you’ll notice it is in a parchment-paper-like-package.

Just pop it on a cookie sheet and toss it in the oven for the amount of time listed on the package.   (You can also cook these in the microwave.)

When the cook time is up, simply cut the end of the bag off and slide the contents out onto your plate.

Look at how fresh it looks. And it really slides out that easy!

Does that even look like diet food?

Stir it up, if need be, and dinner is ready.

Nutrisystem Frozen Food Delivery

Nutrisystem is now using UPS to deliver their frozen entrees. A little under half of my monthly order is frozen.

It now comes in this nifty Styrofoam container like this. (No worries, there are instructions for recycling which they highly recommend.)

When you open the package it is packed with dry ice.

Dry ice you can use for a fun science experiment. {wink, wink}

Everything inside is frozen hard as a rock.

Impressive.

Easy Nutrisystem Breakfast

Let’s face it, we are all busy. Complicated diets, just won’t do.

Here is one of my favorite Nutrisystem breakfasts. It includes Nutrisystem’s Lowfat Granola Cereal and my favorite Greek yogurt which is high in protein.

Add a banana and you have a balanced breakfast.

10 Tips for Dieting During the Holidays

As many of you know, I am on the Nutrisystem program. You can read more about my weight loss journey here.

The holiday season is a dreaded time for many people on a weight loss program, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Here are ten easy ways you can enjoy the celebration days without feeling punished or sacrificing your diet.

  1. Have a plan. Think things through before you get to the actual holiday meals and parties. Maybe your strategy is to take tiny portions of different dishes; that’s okay. If you’re cooking, you might want to have your bottle of water with you in the kitchen, so you’re less tempted to snack. Do what you can to stay away from the appetizer table. Plan to avoid anything that’s not homemade. The point is that if you go in with a plan, you’ll be less likely to get caught off-guard.
  2. Stay on track. Holidays are not the time to skip meals in an attempt to \”bank\” calories. That’s a strategy that can backfire miserably. Instead, eat everything on your meal plan leading up to the holiday event, and make sure you’re drinking all your water. You’ll be less likely to overindulge at the big event.
  3. Set a goal. There’s something about holidays that makes people forget what they do the rest of the year. Do you already have weight loss goals set up for November, December and January? If not you can start today. Once you’ve set a short-term goal, decide on a way to reward yourself once the goal has been reached.
  4. Drink smart. Face it, overindulging during holiday events\””whether it’s an office party, a family gathering or a neighborhood open house\””can add a lot of extra calories to your day. In addition, when you’ve had too much to drink, it tends to weaken your previous resolve and derail any strategies and plans you might have had. Besides, you don’t want to end up as that karaoke-singing family member or neighbor everyone will be talking about for the next month.
  5. Trim the calories. This tip is especially useful if you happen to be the primary cook for an event. In baked items, replace the fat with an equal amount of applesauce and the sugar with a sugar substitute; substitute a quarter cup of egg substitute for every egg called for in the recipe; replace butter with low fat margarine; replace whole milk with 1% milk and sour cream with yogurt; reduce the amount of nuts called for by half. And don’t forget both veggies and salad.
  6. Enlist support. Trying to maintain your diet program can be hard at the holidays, but there’s no reason you have to go it alone. Ask for your family’s understanding or even their help, so nobody’s trying to foist \”seconds\” on you. If you are on the Nutrisystem program can go to the Nutrisystem Discussion Boards, where you’ll find people who definitely understand what you’re trying to do. Discuss your concerns; share tips of your own, or join one of the many weight loss challenges. Some of them are specifically geared to the holidays. Introduce yourself well before the event, so you have that support already in place.
  7. Keep moving. Instead of just sitting around after dinner, suggest a family walk, or organize a touch-football game. Most people will be grateful for the chance to move around, and it can keep you on-track with your exercise plan.
  8. Quality not Quantity. If you do plan to indulge in some of the traditional Thanksgiving favorites, use these portions as a guideline: Turkey\””3 oz. white meat, no skin (about the size of a deck of cards) Mashed potatoes\””1/3 cup (about the size of half of a baseball) Gravy\””1 Tbsp. (just drizzle it) Relish made with sugar\””1 Tbsp. Stuffing\””2 Tbsp. Dinner Roll\””if not homemade, skip it Pie\””1/12 of a 9\” pie
  9. Eat Before You Go. Whether you are hosting or just attending a holiday function, be sure to eat your diet food (Nutrisystem entrée) before the festivities begin — that way you won’t be tempted to overeat during the meal and will be able to stay on track.
  10. Embrace the holiday spirit. This last tip may just be the most important: You can get so caught up in all the planning and hoopla that you lose the whole meaning of the holiday season\””coming together with friends and loved ones. It’s the time that’s really valuable, not the food and drink.

How to Prepare Nutrisystem Foods #NSNation

Nutrisystem foods come in different preparation styles.

There are many foods that can be eaten right out of the package like; granola bars, cereal (add milk), muffins, ice cream, dessert bars, cookies, etc .

Some entrees are frozen and you just pop them in the microwave or oven to heat then up.

Some of my favorite lunch items come in a container with a peel back lid and you add boiling water. It really is easy. Here is how I make one of my favorite lunches, Three Cheese Pasta with Chicken.   (I order about 5-7 of these each month. I really like it.)

Bring a couple of cups of water to a boil on the stove.

Peel back the lid, leaving it still attached to the container.

Add water to the fill line and stir really well to combine all the contents.

Put the lid down to cover the top of the container. I like to put my fork on top to ensure the lid stays down and all the heat stays in.

For this entree it recommends I wait about 8-10  minutes.

This is where I will prepare my side items. I need to have 2 veggies and a protein in addition to this entree. I generally make a salad and have 1 cup of raw carrots. I will add either a low fat cheese stick to the salad, a hard boiled egg, or 1 oz of lunch meat.

When the pasta is done it will look like this. Stir and enjoy. It really is yummy and does not taste like a diet food with compromised flavor.

While I am not losing 5 pounds every week, I am certainly changing my life with Nutrisystem. Yes, there are times I eat out with my family, but I make better food choices today than I did a year ago today. I am learning how to keep the weight off by changing my lifestyle over all.

My Favorite Fat Free Dressing and #Nutrisystem Week 19-20 Results

If I told you there is a fat free dressing that is also calorie free, gluten free, sugar free, carbohydrate free and cholesterol free and none of the taste is compromised, would you believe me?

Walden Farms Ranch dressing has become a staple at my house since starting the Nutrisystem diet and there is nothing diet about this dressing. And, it is certainly a mommy solution!

I use it over my salads, for dipping veggies (especially carrots), dipping my chicken quesadillas and dipping my margherita pizza! I am a dipper, can you tell? I also like to take the leftover sauce from my cheese tortellinis or raviolois, and mix it into my dressing for my salad to give it a little kick. Yum!

Here is my current struggle. I am really good at sticking to Nutrisystem for breakfast, lunch and snack, but I am still struggling with dinner. Not because the food is not good, I have a list of yummy dinner entrees that I love. But with summer, get- togethers and crazy schedules I am finding myself giving into temptation far too often at dinner time.

My weightloss is basically steady, just a few ounces up from the last update I shared. I have exercised nada in the last month, which is very disappointing. I am in control here, and not doing my best to do what I know needs to be done. I actually miss running and walking at the track and how accomplished it made me feel each time I was done. I want to see the results I was seeing before. I have got to change my focus and be more accountable.

I think I am going to add a daily mile widget to my sidebar. This will help me with accountability and it will be linked to my site. Has anyone ever used this? Did it help you stay motivated to exercise?

Summer BBQ Tips When Dieting- (Plus Nutrisystem Week 17-18 Results)

With summer picnics, cookouts and get togethers, it can sometimes be hard to stick to our diets.   Believe me, I know. It is very tempting to eat what everyone else is eating. I have done it. Many times.

Nutrisystem has put together a great list of tips to help us stay on track.

  • Bring your \”BBQ-esque\” Nutrisystem meal of choice such as Nutrisystem’s Hamburgers, Chicken and Hot Dogs to throw on the grill! That way you still feel part of the BBQ eating festivities while staying on program.
  • Offer wheat rolls and buns to give everyone a healthier option.
  • In an attempt to offer lots of fresh veggies, create a garden salad with all your favorite vegetables with various dressings on the side. That way everyone can choose what dressing is best for them, but the salad also allows you to get in your add-in additions while on program. To make a complete meal, top with some grilled chicken.
  • Grill some vegetables on the BBQ! A fun way to do this and to have the kids get involved is to make vegetable shish kabobs!
  • Try to steer away from items drenched with BBQ sauce as this will only add in extra calories and typically is high in sugar and sodium.
  • Make sure to have iced water on hand. Toss in some slices of citrus fruits (i.e. oranges, lime and lemons) or even cucumbers too. This makes it different and is quite refreshing!
  • For dessert you can have your Nutrisystem Dessert with the group, but also have a healthy option such as fruit salad or fruit kabobs for you and your guests. The kids can even help out with making them.

A couple of my favorite lunch items right now are  Three Cheese Chicken and Pasta, Black Beans and Rice and the Margherita Pizza.   I like to pair any of these with a salad, a hard boiled egg and some carrots with fat free dressing. Very filling and yummy.

I am up two pounds, which is a bummer, but I did it to myself.   We have eaten out way too many evenings recently and sometimes I order salad, and sometimes I order something like fajitas. And guacamole. The other day I was up four pounds, so we are back on the right track. We are plugging along, my friend.
