5 Tips for Creating a Healthy Snack Routine

Sharing is caring!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Cuties for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

I hear so many moms say things like, “All my kids want to eat is junk.”.  Or, if they see one child eating a healthy snack they will ask the parent, “How do you get your kids to eat such good foods? My kids won’t eat things like that.”.

The bottom line is, your kids will eat what is made available to them. At least this has been my experience over my 16 years of parenting.

how to create a healthy snack routine

Let me share with you 5 tips that will encourage families, just like yours, to swap sweets for fresh fruit to satisfy those inevitable candy cravings.

5 Tips to Create a Healthy Snack Routine:

  1. Stop buying junk. As I have shared over and over again here on my site, we have a snack container in the cabinet and a snack drawer in the fridge. My kids know where it is and they know what to expect in there. If I buy candy, they will eat candy. If I buy fruit and yogurt instead, guess what they eat? 90% of the time, there is a bag or box of Cuties in our fridge. Our entire family seriously loves them!
  2. Make it easily accessible to them. Like I just shared, my kids know where it is and they simply ask if they may have a snack and then they can get it independently.
  3. Eat what you want them to eat. If my boys see mom and dad eating fruits like Cuties, guess what they want? You’re right, they want Cuties.
  4. As many of you know we homeschool. When we need fuel or a snack, guess what we reach for? Those snack bins in the cabinet or that snack drawer in the fridge. Healthy snacks can be offered anytime; school time, on the go, packed in lunches, as a side with a meal.
  5. Speaking of offering healthy choices during a snack or a meal, this is actually a great place to start. Start offering Cuties as a side with their lunch or dinner. Instead of offering a handful of chips with their sandwich at lunchtime, instead, peel and separate a few Cuties on their plate. Cuties make an awesome no cook side at dinner as well.

Cuties are the best snack! We also eat a lot of celery with peanut butter over here because a healthy snack is the key to not being hungry before dinner. If I get to the point where I’m starving I tend to make bad food choices, like cookies.

  5. I agree with all your tips. The best, I think, is to make these healthy snacks accessible to them anytime of the day. Setting an example would also work wonders for them to stay away from empty calorie sugary snacks.

  6. I think snacks should also be taken seriously. What we put in our mouth will eventually affect our bodies.
