Do you know what’s in your water?

Will you grab a glass from the cabinet and pour yourself a cup of water straight from the tap?

We live in a city right outside of Dallas where the population is right under 40,000 people.

When I was a kid, this area was known for having awful water.

Over the years, the water has improved, but I will not pour my kids a glass of tap water to drink. I worry so much about the levels of impurities and contaminants that are in our drinking water. I had reached a place where I was using bottled water for cooking, for baby bottles, for drinking, for the dog’s water, etc.

As it is, we do not drink enough water. Honestly, I feared to know just how bad the water really was coming out of our tap. AND, I wondered if the bottled water was any better.

Reports say 75% of us fear the condition of our drinking water, yet hardly any of us get our water tested. Honestly, until recently I did not know it was so easy to have it done.

Do you know the difference between hard water and soft water? All of these years I thought I hated soft water. I complained that anytime I washed my hair in soft water I could not get the shampoo and conditioner out. I felt like I could never get the soap off of my body. I was convinced I did not like soft water, but in fact, soft water was not the problem. It is somewhat the opposite.

The more impurities, (lead, arsenic, nitrates, etc.) that are in our local water systems, the more chemicals they use to combat that. The more chemicals that are used to combat the impurities the harder our water gets. The harder our water gets, the more chemicals they need to put in our laundry detergents, shampoos, soaps, etc., so they will lather and do what we “expect” them to do so that we “know” they are working.

Soft water is 300 times more aggressive at cleaning than hard water, and you can use less water when it’s soft than when it’s hard.

I think that if we knew all of the chemicals we are being exposed to in our “clean” tap water and all of the chemicals being added to our detergents, soaps, and cleaners to allow them to work well with the hard water, we would be shocked. Do you see the cycle this creates?

Culligan Aqua-Cleer Reverse Osmosis System is a water filtration system that is configured to filter based on what’s in your water. Culligan can customize your system with up to 14 interchangeable filters, the most options on the market today. This guarantees that your home’s water is free from harmful impurities, including lead. If we don’t want lead in our paint, why would we want it in our water, which we are ingesting?

Not only does Culligan provide you with peace of mind knowing there are no harmful impurities in your water, but it also means that you get better tasting coffee, tea, juices and baby bottles, more flavorful soups, sauces and pasta, and even clearer ice cubes. We even had them run a line to our fridge for the water and ice machine that is in the door.

The system fits under your kitchen sink and does something called reverse osmosis to purify the water. The filters are changed once a year.

Culligan has been solving the hardest and most common water issues in people’s homes for more than 80 years and is a world leader in the treatment of water.

Culligan did a Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) water test at our house.

TDS says it needs to be between 0-50 for a good water reading. That said, the government will allow city water to be up to 1k parts per million. Yikes!!

Natural Spring water will test between 50 and 150.

Average tap water tests between 150-300.

TDS considers anything between 300-500 as high and certainly feels 1k is high.

Here is how our water tested on the TDS scale:

Our city water: 146 (our city is good compared to surrounding cities)

The water pitcher in our fridge: 90

Store brand purified water bottle: 22

Our existing fridge filter for the ice and water in the door front: 140

Water treated with Culligan’s reverse osmosis treatment: 4

Reverse osmosis will remove 94% of the existing impurities from the water.

I cannot tell you how good I feel knowing I can get water straight from the sink for my kids to drink and know I am providing the cleanest water possible.  I really want an entire house system now when you consider what I explained above about the water and chemicals we are bathing with, running through our dishwasher and on our clothes.

You might also look into the Culligan ClearLink Pro as well.  It works with  the Culligan Aqua-Cleer Reverse Osmosis System so you don’t need to drill a hole in your counter for an additional faucet. You simply click the button and dispense the filtered water straight from your existing faucet.  

  1. We have been talking about how we should filter our water, but never quite got around to it. I’ll have to check out this unit, it sounds like a great product.

  2. This is something we need to look into. Our area has really awful water and even though it is better quality in our current home, I still would feel better with a reverse osmosis system.

  3. I always remember the Culligan man! LOL. We get filtered water because I do not trust the tap water (sad to say).

  4. We get water delivered each month because we won’t drink the tap water. This sounds like a great alternative that would probably be cheaper in the long run and a great selling feature on a home.

  5. I don’t drink tap water because I think it tastes bad. I bet it’s from all the dissolved solids. This filter sounds great. I like that it’s customized to your water.

  6. Claudia Krusch says:

We have been drinking Culligan water for years. Our new house had hard water when we fist moved in and I hated it. Now we have a water softener and I use half the amount of detergent.

  7. Thankfully our water is pretty good in my town, but it’s scary how some towns have such tainted water. Culligan is a great choice for water!

  8. Thanks for sharing the difference between soft water and hard water. We also don’t drink water from our tap.

  9. Debra J Hawkins says:

Where we used to live in Texas, they used to tell us all the time to not drink from the tap. I was glad to move back to a place where the water was safe again!

  10. It does scare me to think about what is in the water! We have been looking into different types of house filtration and Culligan keeps topping our list.

  11. Remembering what my mom told me, when they are still kids, they drink tapwater directly. Never they had used any mineral waters. Knowing about the environment now, I think tap water is not safe for drinking anymore.

  12. I don’t cook and drink our tap water either. We rely on bottled water but then again, what’s in the bottled water. I am always wondering about the safety as far as water is concern.

  13. Wow, there is so much to know about water that I never even thought about. Thanks for giving me all this information and I’ll be sure to check it out and see which option is the best for my family.

  14. It’s so important to make sure one’s water is free of chemicals and impurities. We have an under-sink filter system but we are due to replace the filter.

  15. We keep filters in our home. Bottled water is another option but we’re picky with that too. I like to keep tabs on our city water because even showers can be scary depending on the water!

  16. Interesting! I did not know that there was something like this to easily purify water! I will have to look into this. Thanks for letting me know about it!

  17. I saw a video on FB the other day about the pH levels in different brands of bottled water. It seriously stunned me!!! It’s so important to know what exactly is in the water you’re drinking!

  18. They say a lot of bottled water is just bottled tap! I love filtered water and alkaline water the best!
