How to Repair a Scratched CD

Sharing is caring!

I hate buying music CDs for my car anymore. I know it is just a matter of time before it will be scratched.

Same thing with DVDs. Especially when the kids get their hands on them. The outcome is never pretty and the CD eventually skips or stalls. Ugh!

I have purchased the expensive $10 scratch solution at the store. You get very little in a container for the price you’re paying.

Did you know that you can use white toothpaste (paste not mint or gel) on your CDs and it will fix most scratches?

Just clean the CD off with water and rub a little toothpaste into the scratch(es) and then wipe it with a damp rag to clean it off.

Have you ever tried this?

I have tried that and just about every other ‘fix’ including buying one of those scratch fixer machines. Nothing ever worked for me. With movies I am just kind of stuck, but with my music I just uploaded all my old CD’s to my itunes. I don’t buy CD’s anymore because I get my music digitally.

  3. I tried this a few years ago, but it didn’t work. Maybe I used too much toothpaste or the wrong kind. If I remember correctly, I wound up with a sticky mess on the back of the CD. I ended up just throwing it away.

  4. I have tried this twice and it has worked both times. Very happy as they were movies my boys love!

We’ve tried it several times on minor scratches and major scratches and it has never worked. We also heard you can use pledge, and that does not work either.
