If you can play a video game, you can fly a drone! Here is a gift idea to add to your shopping list that any boy would love to receive. Promise!

Drones are great for hand and eye coordination. They also help your kids build motor skills. Believe it or not, a drone is actually something that you can get creative with using it to help your kids get active.

Have you seen these Parrot MiniDrones? My boys and husband spent some time playing with one and they came up with a list of 7 different games you can play using a drone. And don’t be mislead, these games get the kids moving!

7 Games Kids Can Play with a Drone

1) Drone Race- if you have two drones you can have a child fly each one and race them in the air. If you only have one drone, let children race the drone and see who wins to the finish line- them or the drone. Have one child fly the drone while another child races the drone on the ground running.

2) Drone Paintball- help find your target in the mist of a paintball game. It can also protect you and allow you to know who is coming.

3) Drone Baseball- get creative but here are two different ways to use a drone with baseball. You can have one child fly the drone and move from base to base with the kids. This is also a great way to teach smaller kids the order of the bases and help aide them in running. Another thing you can do is use the drone with batting practice. Have one child bat and the other child flying the drone and see which one is faster- the ball or the drone. (Really, this could work with just about any sport.)

4) I Spy- let one child fly the drone over a certain area. In their mind they decide what they spy. They continue to fly the drone over the area allowing the other children to guess what they spy that is on the phone screen.

5) Drone Simon Says- this is a great way to tire your kids out and as many kids who want to play at one time can. Have all of the kids start in one place and they have to follow the drone wherever it goes. Having them run to keep up is even better.

6) Drone Directions- because the drone uses GPS this is a great way to learn and explore with directions. See how well your kids can instruct one another and then follow instructions. Have one child fly the drone and the other child give the directions using words like north, east, west and south.

7) Drone Tricks- have a contest and see which child can fly the drone and do the coolest tricks. The drone we have can do 360° aerobatics. And, it will record your stats when you’re flying, including the crashes, etc. So see which child can do the coolest tricks with the best stat results. Super cool!

  1. I’m sure my boys would love something like this once they are older. I’m still not too sure why drones have become so popular in recent months but I guess it would be a neat gadget. You know how guys just love collecting all types of gadgets…

  2. I have not heard of these drones before! They look like they would be fun to play with and to use as well. I never would have thought to make games for kids like this, all are great ideas.

  3. It’s so cool that we can use drones these days for gaming. We don’t have parrot minidrones yet in our local stores. These games are so creative! I haven’t thought that drone baseball is possible.

  4. Playing with drones is fun. My son uses his Parrot Mini Drone for many of the same games. Mostly he just flies it all over the place testing its limits. I swear he’s going to lose that thing one of these days. I’ve had to retrieve it from the golf course behind our house more times than I can count.

  5. I had no idea! I thought drones were just for flying around, like a plane so I sorta never saw the point. You gave me so many ideas how to use one though. I really think my kids would enjoy having a drone to play with now.

  6. Oh that seems like so much fun. I don’t have kids but I definitely know that my cousin would LOVE this. It is so much fun to have kids learning skills while having fun they don’t realize they are actually learning anything!

  7. I remember playing “I Spy” and “Simon Says” when I was a kid. It would be weird to play it with a drone, I think. My kiddo would think otherwise, though. What a neat toy for the kids.

  8. I have to say that this is a toy that my husband will enjoy very much! I might just include it in his Christmas gift wish list! Thanks for sharing your wonderful post!

  9. Christy Hoover says:

I hadn’t given too much thought of what to buy for Christmas but this has just made the list. What great way to spend some time outside. As these become popular a whole new lesson on safety and privacy come into play when teaching our children.

  10. I am amazed at how toys have evolved! I am loving how they are using technology to make toys fun for kids and getting them outside. This Minidrone looks like it would be a blast to play with! I got to see a drone up close and was amazed at how massive they really are but this one looks like the perfect “kid size”.
