Easy Recipes: Bean and Meat Chili
  • 1 lb hamburger meat
  • 2 (15 oz) cans pinto beans
  • 2 (15 oz) cans red kidney beans
  • 1 (16 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (28 oz) can of water
  • 4-5 T chili powder
  • 1 T cumin
  • 1 T garlic powder (or crushed garlic if you have it, I was out)
  • 1 T onion powder (or half a small onion diced, fresh is my preference but I did not have one)
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1-2 T olive oil for cooking the meat
  • shredded cheddar cheese, optional topping
  1. Add the olive oil to a large cooking pot and begin to brown the hamburger meat.
  2. Add the seasoning and salt and pepper.
  3. Combine well and continue to brown the meat thoroughly.
  4. One the meat is fully cooked, add the crushed tomatoes. (Hang on to the can, we're going to fill it up with water.)
  5. Add the can of tomato sauce.
  6. Add the four cans of beans, undrained. Stir well.
  7. Now, use the crushed tomato can and fill it up with water. Add that water to the chili pot.
  8. Add salt and pepper to taste and continue to cook over a medium-high heat until the chili is heated through. About 25-30 minutes more of cooking and dinner is done.
  9. I like to serve each bowl of chili with a bit if shredded cheese on top and a side of sweet cornbread.
