As a mom of many like you I find myself at the grocery store A LOT. On top of that our house is full of boys so maintaining a pantry and refrigerator full of groceries takes time and effort on my part.
We go through a lot of food in our house. I would have to say that grocery shopping for big families is one of the largest expenses on a household budget. Whether you have a house full of boys or a house full of dogs you are going to find yourself wandering the grocery store each week. My experiences in the grocery store need to be quick and to the point. I don’t want to spend a bunch of time trying to remember what we are missing or what I need to buy
7 Ways to Grocery Shop Efficiently
1. Never leave home without a shopping list. This my friends are the best-kept secret to accomplishing grocery shopping and not throwing your money out the window. Seriously! Take the time to make a list of all the things you need BEFORE heading out the door.
2. Consider a meal plan for the week. I am telling you meal planning has saved my life. Saved me from the chaos that is any meal on any given day. Meal planning is easy and simple and all of the things you need to feed your family goes right on your list and it is a done deal!
3. Make sure your list includes things like snacks and other go-to stuff for quick meals. Not every night do I have time to cook a meal. Keeping things on hand and making sure they are on my list takes the headache out of wondering what is for dinner.
4. Never, ever go grocery shopping when you are hungry. Too many times have I done this and things just did not end well. Not only was my buggy overflowing with food but nothing that I actually needed. So cut out the impulse shopping and eat before you go.
5. Check out the store ads or clip coupons before you go. Many stores offer weekly deals that include savings on common household staples. Check things out for your area and don’t skip out on the weekly ads there is A TON of savings in there!
6. Create a grocery budget. Feeding a big family and making sure we aren’t spending the farm on food is really important. So take some time to figure out what amount you can allow each week or month for groceries.
