How to Cook Frozen Veggies and Make Them Amazing

Frozen vegetables are a consistent element in my meal planning each week. You will notice over and over again that my meal plans consist of the main meat, a steamed veggie or fruit, salad and dinner rolls. We also use rice and pasta as one of our meal items as well depending on what we’re cooking. Having this consistent method helps me get dinner on the table.

This is how I cook frozen veggies to make them amazing.

Ingredients:

  • 12-16 oz bag of  frozen veggie
  • 2-3 T butter, cut into fourths
  • 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of water (depending on the amount of veggies)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (we just use a heaping spoon full of the jarred stuff)
  • Kosher salt and fresh cracked pepper, to taste

Toss your frozen veggies into a large cooking pot or dutch oven.

Add the water.

Toss on the pats of butter, garlic, salt and pepper.

Cook on medium-high for about 20 minutes on your stovetop. Just let the water steam them up. You can add a lid to speed up the process if you like.

Generally my veggie  is cooking while my rolls are heating up in the oven and my main dish has moved to “warm” in the crockpot.

I stir the veggie about half way through cooking.

Plate it up and devour.

This works perfectly for broccoli, green beans, peas, mixes veggies, you name it!

We love it.

    I have a very strong dislike for vegetables usually, especially broccoli. I have been trying to make myself find a way to cook them so that I will like them because I want to set a good example for my kiddos and eat healthier for my own sake. Sooo…I tried this with some frozen broccoli the other night, and it was awesome!!! The pan got a little hotter than I’d expected, and it browned it a little more than I thought I’d like, but in the end, the broccoli tasted like it’d be roasted in the oven and it was really, really good. This will become a regular part of our weekly menu plan, and I can’t wait to try it on other vegetables. Btw, my picky 3 year old daughter tried it and loved it and so did my husband. Thank you so much for getting me to eat and love broccoli! :)
