13 Amazing Texas Cities To Visit

We are in the dead center of summer. It seems as though this is a much busier time of the year than any other. Between birthdays. holidays, and family functions we are always on the go.

Family vacations may not be on your schedule this summer but we have some fantastic ideas for you for any time of the year, especially if you’re looking for things to do in Texas with kids!

Travel is something we as families really look forward to. Besides the beach and amusement parks there are tons of other family friendly destinations perfect for your staycation or weekend destination. After all, Texas covers 268,820 square miles of land. With flatlands, coastline, and hill country there are so many sights to see. I might be partial because I was born and raised here, but this is an amazing state to see!

Take a long weekend or week with any of these! So much fun to bed had!

1. San Antonio- This city is packed full of history and adventure. With places like the Alamo and the Riverwalk this is an ultimate sight for all kinds of adventure. We travel here many times each year.

2. Big Bend- An ideal spot of outdoor adventure. With nature trails and hikes the desert like feel of Big Bend is breath taking.

3. Hill Country- The Hill Country is beaming with country feel. It is a true bounty of lakes, rivers, and streams as well as a beautiful countryside with tons of nature to see and ideal camping too!

4. Glen Rose- This city is littered with outdoor adventure for any family. There is Dinosaur Valley that is a true amazing experience with hiking trails to look for fossils and dinosaur prints, and even Fossil Rim where you can drive thru an exotic animal sanctuary. We’ve been here as a family and love it!

5. Palo Duro Canyon- With rugged terrain and lots of places for camping, hiking, and fishing Palo Duro Canyon is a wonderful location. You can take a Jeep tour and enjoy the view of the many cliffs!

6. Galveston- With a lot of family fun this place can’t be beat. There are family beaches such as Stewart’s Beach where chair rentals and showers are only a few amenities, tons of shops, and of course all the seafood you can eat!

7. Marble Falls- Is beautiful countryside with lots of greenery! It is a great spot for camping and enjoying the great outdoors. We pass through here sometimes on our travels back from San Antonio. It is defiantly a hidden treasure.

8. DFW- The Dallas-Fort Worth Area is beaming with things for families to do. With lots of great museums such as the Perot and Fort Worth Museum of Science and History science will be a new found interest for your whole family. There are also local water and amusements parks to check out too. Visit the Bass Hall in Fort Worth or experience food truck parks in both cities for some local food flair. Welcome to my stomping ground!

9. Lake Fork- This is the ideal spot for you angler families. With lots of waterfront and premier bass fishing there is a great time to be had here!

10. Austin- As the state capitol of Texas it is also know as the “live music capitol.” There are lots of local events usually held here and of course some great locations for biking, hiking, and camping! Or, spend a day at the capitol. We love this city!

11. New Braunfels- This place is home to some very exciting water recreation including floating the Guadalupe and Comal Rivers. Aside from that the culture is rich with wonderful restaurants and the famous Schlitterbahn.

12. Fredricksburg- Is rich will the influences of German culture. There are ideal wineries and beautiful countryside to see. It is home to unique festivals and bed and breakfasts for lodging. This is a gorgeous place!

13. Houston- As a close stop just before the ocean Houston has a lot to offer. With the NASA Space Center, museums, and other attractions Houston has some great places for family adventure.
