Ingredients for this Delicious Bean Recipe

Here’s what you need for this easy weeknight meal!

  • Long Grain RiceLong grain rice is a popular choice for crockpot rice and beans for a variety of reasons. For starters, it has a fluffy texture and is less starchy than short grain rice, making it a perfect complement to thick and hearty beans. Long grain rice also has a lower glycemic index, which means it won’t spike your blood sugar levels and can help keep you feeling full for longer.
  • Vegetable BrothIf you’re looking for a healthier and tastier alternative to cooking rice and beans in just plain water, then vegetable broth is certainly worth trying out. Not only does it add extra flavor and a richer texture to your dish, but it’s also packed with tons of nutrients and vitamins that your body needs to stay healthy and energized.
  • Diced TomatoesTomatoes are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that can help improve digestion, boost your immune system, and even lower your risk of cancer. Plus, their natural acidity adds a bright, tangy flavor to the dish that pairs perfectly with the earthiness of the beans and the nuttiness of the rice. So next time you’re reaching for a can of diced tomatoes, remember that you’re not just adding flavor to your crockpot rice and beans—you’re also giving your body a healthy dose of nutrients.
  • Taco SeasoningThe mix of spices adds an extra burst of flavor that takes this classic dish to a whole new level. And the best part is that you don’t even need to measure out a bunch of different spices, it’s all in one little packet.
  • Black BeansBlack beans are one of those magical ingredients that just make everything taste better. But when it comes to crockpot rice and beans, they’re practically essential. Not only do they add a rich, deep flavor to the dish, but they’re also chock full of nutrients that make this meal a healthy choice.
  • SalsaSalsa is an absolute game-changer when it comes to enhancing the taste of your crockpot rice and beans. Its unique blend of tomatoes, onions, chilies, and spices introduces a vibrant, tangy note that perfectly balances the earthy flavors of beans and the mildness of the rice. In addition, the salsa’s slight heat can add a subtle kick to the dish, making it even more exciting for your palate.
  • Cheddar CheeseCheddar Cheese is a delightful addition to this crockpot rice and beans dish. Apart from its rich, creamy taste that adds a layer of indulgence, it also helps bind all the ingredients together, creating a cohesive dish with each bite more satisfying than the last. The smooth, slightly sharp flavor of Cheddar cheese effortlessly complements the earthiness of the beans, the nuttiness of the rice, and the zestiness of the salsa.
  • Cilantro– Fresh cilantro is the ultimate garnish for this crockpot rice and beans dish. Its distinct, earthy flavor with a hint of citrus can elevate the taste of any dish it’s added to. When sprinkled on top of your rice and beans, it imparts a refreshing taste that cuts through the richness of the beans and cheese, and complements the tanginess of the salsa. Not just that, cilantro leaves are also known for their health benefits.
  • Avocado– Adding avocado to your crockpot rice and beans dish not only adds a dose of healthy fats but also enhances the overall flavor and texture of the meal. The creamy, buttery texture of ripe avocados provides a delightful contrast to the hearty beans and fluffy rice. Avocados are also packed with essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber that promote good health.

How Do You Keep Rice from Turning Mushy in the Crockpot?

Cooking rice in a crockpot can be tricky. We’ve all been there – you’ve got everything prepped and ready to go and then, bam, your rice turns out mushy and unappetizing. Fear not, because I’ve got some tips to help make sure your rice is perfectly cooked every time.

The first thing to remember is to use the right amount of liquid. You want enough to cook the rice, but not so much that it turns to mush. Try using a ratio of 1 to 1 1/2 for rice to liquid. Another tip is to check on the rice periodically to make sure it’s not sticking to the bottom of the crockpot. And lastly, use high-quality rice.

Can I Put Dry Beans in the Crockpot?

If you’re anything like me, you probably love using your crockpot to make hearty, delicious meals with minimal effort. And if you’re wondering whether you can put dry beans in the crockpot, the answer is a resounding yes! In fact, cooking dry beans in a slow cooker is a great way to ensure they come out perfectly tender every time. How Long Should You Cook Beans Before Adding Rice?

If you’re a fan of rice and beans like I am, you might be wondering when to add the rice to the pot. Well, it really depends on the kind of beans you’re using. If you’re using canned beans, they’re already cooked and you can add the rice right away. But if you’re using dried beans, you need to cook them until they’re tender before adding the rice.
