A New (School) Year Begins

Sharing is caring!

Yesterday Garrett started sixth grade which is considered middle school where he attends.
I remember sixth grade like it was yesterday. My teachers names, the smell of the portable building, the students, being dropped off in my parents beautifully unforgettable station wagon that I later named the beast.
It is also the year I met my friend Tiffany who I am still friends with to this very day. We talk a few times a week. Sometimes every day. Sometimes, if life is busy, a few weeks may pass in between conversations, but we pick up right where we left off.

Middle school.
Same building as last year, just a different hall.
Garrett made it very clear that I would ruin his life forever if I tried to walk him into school.
So the parking lot is where we said our goodbyes. Don’t embarrass me….
I suppose I’ll survive the rejection.
After all, in some countries he is old enough to raise himself you  know.
And yesterday Anthony started third grade.
Very excited about a new school year.
He has the same teacher that Garrett had in third grade so of course Garrett had to give Anthony the run down. Apparently Garrett knows everything….
Anthony listens so ready to be the best student ever.
I mean, after all, he knows somebody who had this teacher already and that is certainly a recipe for success!
Right?
Desks so tidy and his name plate nice and clean. No bent edges on the tape that holds it to the desk.
A brand new box of crayons and pencils just waiting to be put to paper.
So excited for something great to happen….
because great things always happen when you’re learning.

  1. I know it was hard to let Garrett walk in without you…..he is still your baby. It's hard to believe our "littles" aren't so little anymore.
Anthony looked so excited to be at school. I hope they both have a fantastic year!

  2. Kim- they grow up so fast… we blink and they are big and changing and hairy.

I found a picture of Garrett from the night before he started Kindergarten. He is wearing Sccoby Doo pj's and looks so innocient. I put it on the fridge. So precious.

I guess I will just keep ruining his life. 🙂
