Step by Step How to Make Birds Nest Rice Krispies
- First we want to melt the butter by adding it to a microwave-safe bowl and heating it on high for 45 seconds.
- After the first 45 seconds, you’re going to stir the marshmallows and the butter and put them in the microwave again for another 45 seconds.
- Stir using a spoon that you’ve sprayed with cooking spray so that the mixture doesn’t stick. Keep microwaving in 45-second intervals until everything is completely melted and mixed really well.
- Add in the Rice Krispies asap and mix. Then take and press the mixture into the muffin tin using the back of a spoon to press in and make the “nest”.
- Cool them or pop them in the fridge to cool faster.
- Once cooled, ice the nests using green icing to look like grass and add in the eggs!
What else can I use for the “eggs” in the nest?
Anything round and fun colored is going to work. Think M&M’s, chocolate balls, or even some fun chocolate colored raisins or marshmallows as well. You could even use jelly beans or robin eggs
Have fun changing up the middle of the nest treats because it’s such a simple way to keep them tasting new and different.
Can you burn marshmallows when melting them in the microwave?
You can. You need to be careful and watch the time as well. It’s also kind of fun to stand and watch the marshmallows melt because before they melt, they expand and get huge in the bowl! After every 45 seconds, you need to stir and mix around.
Will the Rice Krispies stick in the pan?
They shouldn’t. Since you’re adding in the rice Krispy mixture that is mainly butter as an ingredient, this should be an easy way to keep those Rice Krispie nests from sticking.
If you’re worried about them sticking in the pan, you can always add just a little bit of butter on the inside of the muffin pan just for that extra precaution.
