Back to School Activities: DIY Crayon Container

Sharing is caring!

Where did the summer run off to?  It seems like just yesterday we were talking about summer activities for kids and now we are talking backpacks and pencils.

I think it’s a great idea to make back to school teacher gifts because teaching is one of the hardest jobs out there.  It’s great to show them they are appreciated even on the first day of school.  And since it’s still hot outside it’s the perfect time to do a few more activities for kids inside.

This DIY crayon container is ideal for older kids, but can be tailored for the younger crowd.  It’s also a great back to school gift that I’m sure any teacher will love!

 Back to School Teacher Idea

Right now school supplies are on sale and its the best time to buy for the whole year.  My kids don’t go to school yet but I make sure to stock up on crayons, markers and glue during this time of year.

We grabbed four boxes of crayons the other day because they were only a quarter each!  You just can’t beat a quarter box of crayons!

To make your own crayon holder for your teacher (or yourself!) you will need:

  • Two boxes of crayons
  • A small plastic container
  • Hot glue gun (or tacky glue for younger kids)

Put a dab of glue along one side of the crayon.  Attached it to the plastic container and let dry.  Its faster with hot glue, but if you are doing this craft with small children you may want to use tacky glue.  It will take a while longer to dry but you won’t have to worry about hot glue gun burns!

Also, I purchased my small plastic container at Michaels for $1 so the total price of this teachers gift is under $2.  Thrifty and adorable?  Sounds like the perfect back to school teacher gift to me!
