Ingredients Needed to Make These Meatballs
Here’s what you need to make this delicious recipe!
- Ground Beef – Ground beef is the go-to for making the best meatballs – it’s got that rich flavor, hearty texture, and just the right amount of fat to keep the meatballs tender and juicy. The natural umami in beef takes the flavor to the next level, pairing perfectly with all the herbs and seasonings.
- Tomato Sauce.- Its natural acidity helps to balance the richness of the meat, while the slow cooking process allows the flavors to meld together beautifully. Whether infused with herbs, garlic, or a hint of spice, tomato sauce enhances every bite.
- Bread Crumbs – Bread crumbs lock in moisture so your meatballs don’t dry out, and they soak up all the yummy flavors from the seasoning and sauce. The result is meatballs that are tender, flavorful, and impossible to resist.
- Egg – They work as a binding agent, holding everything together so your meatballs keep their shape while cooking. Plus, they add a little extra richness and moisture, keeping the meatballs from drying out or falling apart.
- Mozzarella Cheese – When you mix it into the meatballs the gooey cheese makes every bite so much better. The mild, slightly tangy flavor is perfect with the savory meat and rich tomato sauce.
- Garlic Clove – Their deep, aromatic flavor perfectly complements the rich, savory meat, adding just the right balance of pungency and sweetness. When you mince or grate garlic, it spreads evenly through the mixture, so every bite is packed with flavor.
- Salt and Pepper – Salt brings out the natural flavors of the meat, cheese, and other ingredients, while pepper adds just the right amount of heat and complexity. Together, they balance everything perfectly, making every bite flavorful, savory, and downright delicious.

Can I Use a Different Type of Meat Instead of Ground Beef?
Ground beef is a classic, but you can easily switch it up based on what you like or need. Ground turkey or chicken are great leaner options that still taste amazing. If you’re in the mood for something richer, ground pork adds a nice sweet, bold flavor.
Prefer plant-based? No problem—there are awesome substitutes made from soy, pea protein, or legumes that work just as well. Just remember, cooking times and seasonings might need a little tweaking, so taste as you go to get it just right!
What Can I Serve with These Meatballs?
There are so many tasty ways to enjoy these meatballs! Want to keep it classic? Toss them over some spaghetti with marinara sauce for the ultimate comfort meal. Feeling something lighter? Go for zucchini noodles or a crisp green salad with tangy vinaigrette. They’re also perfect as appetizers—just pop in some toothpicks and serve with a dipping sauce like barbecue, teriyaki, or sweet chili.
If you’re craving something hearty, stuff them in a sandwich roll with melted cheese for an epic meatball sub. Honestly, the options are endless—get creative and pair them with whatever you’re in the mood for!
Can I Freeze the Meatballs?
Freezing meatballs is such a time-saver! Once you’ve cooked them, let them cool completely, then pop them into an airtight container or freezer bag. A little tip: freeze them on a baking sheet first so they don’t stick together, then transfer them to the bag once they’re solid.
They’ll keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to eat, just thaw them in the fridge overnight and warm them up in your sauce on the stovetop or bake them in the oven. You can also freeze uncooked meatballs—just make sure to thaw them completely before cooking. So easy and convenient!

Hello! I cannot wait to try your meatball recipe. But can you please let me know if there is a typo/error in the amount of sauce to use as well as the breadcrumbs? Unless I’m just reading it wrong. Thank you so much!!
I corrected it. Hope it makes sense now. 😉
Thank you! Another question, sorry! Is it really just a 1 ounce can of sauce?
It’s 1 (8oz) can.
