Hand Print Art: C is for Car

I am in love with these hand print art craft ideas that we’re sharing each week. And the cool thing is, it touches on another way for kids to learn. Creating with our hands is a great way to help the things we are learning stick in our mind. 

Each week we have a new way to create a fun hand print that represents a letter of the alphabet. These are perfect for preschoolers and young learners. This week we are focusing on c is for car!

Hi everyone! It’s week three of the hand print art alphabet series I’m contributing here on Crystal & Co. Have you been following along?

Today is letter C is for Car. I have seen lots of adorable footprint cars in the past that I absolutely love, however, for this series we are making a hand print one. A fun book to go along with this craft is Cars Galore by Peter Stein. There are many different colors and styles of vehicles in the story. Your child may even want to make their craft inspired by one of the cars from the book.

Supplies Needed:

• construction paper
• paint
• paintbrush
• scissors
• markers
• glue

 

Instructions for making the hand print car:

1. Paint the hand in color of choice.
2. Make a sideways hand print in the center of the paper with the thumb on the top. Try to place the thumb on an angle versus straight up and down.
3. Paint just the thumb in a different color of paint as the car print.
4. Make a thumbprint on top of the middle area of the hand print. It should look like a little thumbprint person is driving the car…. tee, hee!
5. Make 2 tires using black construction paper. I traced around a circular shaped object in the same size I wanted the tires to be. Trace and cut 2 smaller white circles to place in the center of the black ones. Glue the tires on. If making with a toddler, you may wish to make glue dots where you would like the tires to be.
6. Draw on a door handle using a marker. Also draw facial features on the little thumbprint person. I also made a bow for the top of the head. My daughter often wears bows and flower hair clips so I thought it would be a cute way to represent her driving the car.
7. Draw a road outline and write ‘C is for Car’ near the top.
8. Color the road (and letters if making bubble letters). My daughter drew a sun on as well.

Children may also like making designs on their car.

Or they could make it a race car and add flames coming out the back end.

Instead of making a thumbprint person, print a photo of the child. Cut around their silhouette and glue it in place.

Use acid-free glue if you are wanting to have the project for a long time or stored away as a keepsake.

Glue that isn’t acid-free tends to turn yellowish-brown over time.
