Mommy Struggles

Sharing is caring!

It’s funny how things change over the years. How we evolve into the role of mommyhood.

One small step at a time.

I wanted this life- the day could not come fast enough. I was prepared and ready to be the stay-at-home-mommy making pancakes, sandwiches and lemonade. Car pool lines and songs of ABC’s and lullabies. The life of pure bliss and love.

I had no idea.

No idea how lost I would feel- sometimes.

Ok, a lot of times.

There are times we realize as mothers just how much we have put ourselves on the back burner. The moment we find ourselves in a department store, without children in tow, and it feels awkward and out of place because we have grown accustomed to purchasing every wardrobe item for ourselves at the same store we purchase milk and cereal for our children.

To spend two hours trying on clothes in peace and quiet and no one yelling the words Mommy I want a toy or Mommy I need to go potty  or Mommy he is touching me, every five seconds. To actually concentrate on a task without interruption and to use the dressing room instead of starring at the rooms as a place to hide from the chaos.

To browse through the shoe section not pushing a shopping cart because this is a fancy store. Not that you even purchase a pair, but just the chance to browse uninterrupted- collecting your thoughts instead of collecting the piles of litter you and your ducklings leave behind.

To be introduced to the latest genius invention for women, Spanx, and wonder how come you never found this smoothing and flattening product before now and how every mother from here to the Mississippi River would be gifted with a pair if  you could just win the lottery.

(Guess I should play the lottery. Might help my chances of winning.)

And then you come home to sweet, smiling, dirty little faces and remember, you have won the lottery.

The lottery that provides a daily payoff- no matter the struggle or uncertainty.  No matter how lost you feel or how frustrating days are, you’re glad you played- because love feels good.

…and so do Spanx!

  2. Thank you Erin! I struggle every single day!

  3. I have the same experience when I go shopping. To be able to actually look instead of keeping one eye on the kids, refereeing and still trying to find some thing (in my budget) to wear instead of the stained t-shirts I own. And I only have 2 kids and my niece. Don't know how you do it.
