Today our diaper bag tip for  mom’s of multiples comes from Angela! The bag she loves is fit for triplets… she would know, hers are almost 2 years old!

Make sure you check out her bio at the end (she is a Texas mom, too!) where you can also be directed to her precious site appropriately titled Oh My God You Poor Thing!

Once I got over the shock of expecting triplets, I was very excited to go shopping for a new diaper bag. On my first time around, with just a single baby, I chose a backpack style bag, which I thought would be practical because I could strap it on my back and have my hands free to tend to the baby. And it was very handy in that regard. My problem with the backpack was that I could never find anything in it – ever. Things went in never to be seen again.

This time around I was determined to have some structure. I knew I needed something big – I had to carry around \”stuff\” for three babies after all – but I wanted it organized. Lots of pockets, compartments, straps, and zippers. And a built in changing pad. And a wipes holder. And a key fob. And a special pocket for my cell phone.

My Mom and I wound up at a very cute maternity boutique, where I found this:

A Petunia Pickle Bottom shoulder bag. Even the name is cute. Lots of structure and room for everything. It was a little bit bulky, but hey – three babies!

Reality check. Now that I am almost two years out, I think I can count on one hand the number of times that I have taken that diaper bag out of the car. The truth is, unlike when I only had one, I rarely take the babies out long enough to need a diaper bag. Don’t get me wrong, we do leave the house often. Just not for very long. I change them before I go, and they rarely need a change while we are out. And when they do, I usually just take them home, because we rarely go terribly far. It’s much easier to stash a few diapers in the backseat of the van, just in case.

I do still love my Petunia Pickle Bottom. And now that the babies are almost two, we are planning to start making some road trips, so maybe I’ll be pulling it out again soon.

Angela is mom to 22-month old triplets, Kate, Oliver & Willa, as well as to their six-year-old big brother, Evan. She and her family live in Austin, TX, and she has been blogging about life with triplets for the past two years. Make sure you check her out over at OMG You Poor Thing where she writes about her journey. (Shout out to Texas mom’s of multiples! )
