When Was The Last Time You Went Shopping for Cards? #hallmarkcardrewards

Sharing is caring!

Back in the day when I had one child, a corporate job that paid well and a lunch hour carved out just for me, I used to go to the card shop all the time. It was thrilling.

I am serious. I budgeted for this stuff. I was the President of Card Giving!

I waited to see what the next deal of the month was with baited breath. You know, the deal you could get if you purchased so many cards. I strolled the store gathering cards that I could send to friends and family any time they needed encouragement, or if a birthday was coming up, or a just because you are the greatest friend ever card. (See, I used to be organized.)

Oh, and the holiday ornaments. My oldest son had an ornament to celebrate every year of life and milestone.  I was shameless.

Then our family grew by four.

Right now I get to go to the card store when my husband will sit in the car with the kids because for crying out loud they will break something! But that has to change. I mean, I have not collected Hallmark Card Rewards in ages. I used to have their little savings swipper on my key-chain for Pete’s sake.

So, I pulled out my card organizing box. You know, the one I got for a deal because I had reward points 8 years ago. It is dusty and sad. There are 20+ cards in there I could be using…. one I could have used just this Saturday for our friend’s little boys 5th birthday.

I fail again.

I am reminded that I used to have lists of everyone’s birthday. Things were thought out and planned.

Looks like the last person that saw this file card from the organizing box was a two year old who left his graffiti all over it. (Did I mention my kids color on walls too?)

Look at this sweet card. It was intended for someone and I never delivered.

Wait, I delivered a bunch of kids…. but no cards.

Things must change.

When did I allow my life to become so technical even in the form of birthday cards? A social media shout out on my friend’s and family member’s birthday is not enough. I have become a card giving failure.

I LOVE sending cards to people – they are so surprised to receive them!

    1. Michelle- I think it is such a lost art. I agree, it is always a pleasant surprise to open the mailbox and receive a card.

  2. I just found you thru your Google Hangout series. 🙂 Which I’m loving! Thanks for that. I used to love Hallmark Cards too! But then…kids. I also discovered I like Cardmaking too. I love all the other Products that Hallmark has. Especially their Ornaments. We take the kids in every year to pick one out. 🙂

    1. Aimee- yay for the G+ hangouts. I am so glad you’re loving them. We really appreciate your feedback.

I tried card making and that was an epic fail for me. I really miss just going to the card store…. it always was so relaxing to me.

I am so glad you stopped by. I am off to check out your crockpot chicken noodle soup recipe!

  3. I love cards too! And I have the SAME problems…no time for card shopping. It’s kind of a little dream of mine to make my own greeting cards and sell them. Until then, though, I’ll do my best to keep the card industry thriving, lol! I actually have some cards that I got as a child and have held on to for decades because they were too pretty to give. That makes me sound crazy. Maybe I need to frame them or something, at this point.

  4. i love giving and receiving cards and I keep them for years

  5. Thanks for the reminder! I used to be the letter writing and card mailing kind too! I had pen pals for goodness sakes. Now, I do it all online and I miss finding fun stuff in my mail box!

I hear you! Our lives have become to techie, and getting a hand addressed and signed card in the mail, these days is a real special thing! Even more so, if someone takes the time to pen a few words.

Today, I had to go out and get a sympathy card. Had I kept up my Hallmark card organizer, I would have been prepared!

    Thanks for the reminder!

    1. Make sure you sign up for the rewards program so you can start earning!

  7. I have the same box from Hallmark and I bet there are Easter Cards in there from about 10 years ago! I love Hallmark and could spend hours and lots of money in there! Thanks for reminding me to pull out my card box and my Rewards card.

  8. I love Hallmark cards but had no idea they had a rewards program! Will definitely check it out!

    1. Arena- yes! They’ve had it forever. I used to earn all kinds of stuff with it and now the reward options are even better.

I miss making card giving a priority over the last seven years or so. But I am determined to make that change)

  9. I adore cards and have been a failure lately at getting them TO people!!! There isn’t anything better than opening the mailbox and finding a card instead of a bill!

  10. I received a very sweet sympathy card this year from a friend who could have easily sent an email. It was so special to me that I have vowed to send more cards next year!
