ChromaGen Vision- Glasses for Dyslexia

Sharing is caring!

My good friend Jaymie called me yesterday. She wanted to make sure I knew about a segment that would be on our local news regarding dyslexia. So glad she called!

There is a company called ChromaGen and they initially created glasses with multi-colored lenses to assist people who are color blind. Soon they discovered that these lenses could assist people with reading issues associated with dyslexia.

The ChromaGenâ„¢ lens system has been shown to be of benefit to those dyslexics who suffer from the perceptual distortion of text that makes reading more difficult. These distortions include blurring (that cannot be corrected by refraction), movement of the letters or words, shimmering to the page, the words sinking into the white background of the page, pattern glare, and patterns formed by the spaces between words and lines that interfere with reading. Although ChromaGenâ„¢ is a symptomatic treatment and the underlying neurological condition remains unchanged, in 50% of these patients the ease of reading is improved.

Visit their site to find a ChromaGen Practitioner. There are multiple certified providers in Texas, as well as Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Ohio and Tennessee. The glasses are likely not covered under insurance and cost about $700, but there are many testimonies of success. Not only is our ten yer old dyslexic, but my husband is as well. These glasses remind him of the overlays they encouraged him to use back in the 70’s and 80’s when he was in school. And those overlays helped him years ago.

Feel free to also read the story covered by our local news station. While you’re at it, read more about our dyslexia journey as well as resources I have shared!

  3. I never knew of such glasses. Thanks for information. It is too bad that insurance companies can’t help cover the cost of these.

    1. Pretty awesome, hua? Hopefully in the future they will be covered under insurance.

  4. Interesting! I hadn’t heard of anything like this before.

  7. We’re still not sure of my daughter’s learning problem, but she’s been using a colored plastic piece (a color that she chose) for all of her reading. It has been helping her a great deal. But writing is another story. I’ll keep this in mind if she needs them. Thank you so much!

I had never heard of anything like these. I think insurance should cover the cost too.

  9. These glasses are AMAZING! I consider them to be a true miracle for my daughter. If you know anyone with dyslexia please tell them about this technology!

    1. Eva- is your daughter using them currently? I would love to hear more about your experience if so.

Our 10 year old is dyslexic. I share all dyslexia resources and solutions I find and discover here on my site so others can research these options as well.

      1. Yes she currently uses them. When she was first tested for them it was incredibly eye opening for all of us. We didn’t know much about dyslexia and are so thankful we discovered the glasses so early in her diagnosis. She knew no different than what she could see and could not describe her challenges. When she could finally see sentences in straight lines, and the words on the page no longer moved all over the pages she cried with joy! As a mom, it broke my heart but again we are so thankful and consider these glasses to be a true miracle.
The eyeglasses are very expensive but SO worth it!!

  10. Linda M. Johnson says:

I am a 65 year old woman in California. I found a Dr. who does testing for dyslexia. I just received my ChromoGen Glasses for dyslexia. WOW…I wish I would have learned about them years and years ago, when I was younger and so frustrated with problems associated with dyslexia, as a child! I just started using them several days ago. I love them. I use them for reading and computer (I-Pad) use. What a difference it makes on my computer and reading. I would highly recommend having children with dyslexia go and be tested, and can save many years of problems and frustrations.

    Thank you,

  11. I was interested in the lenses I have a dyslexic son who has been wearing colored lenses for 7 years now. He was diagnosed with something called Irlen Syndrome it’s very common with dyslexics and it sounds very similar to the glasses you describe. Check out the Irlen website for more explicit info. It’s very helpful.
