Mommy Solutions: How to Make Your Living Room Look Bigger

Sharing is caring!

The living room is where you spend most of your time when in the house, therefore it is important that it feels spacious and homely. With the economy how it is at the minute, house redecorating often falls to the bottom of the pile of things to do, and the cost is always a little too much. However, with these five easy tips, you can revamp your living area for a fraction of the cost.

Step 1 – remove any objects that are muddling up your room

Clutter is the number one reason why rooms look small and dark. Have a good old-fashioned clear out, possibly selling your old ornaments and lamps on eBay and removing that set of draws that just seems to collect things over the week. Introduce a \”Ëœone in one out’ policy with new furniture and bits and pieces that you place in your room.

Without this mess, your room will instantly feel more airy and clean (if not a little minimal), which will hopefully make it more appealing and less like a jumble sale.

Step 2 – Buy a big mirror

Make the centerpiece of your room a big mirror that will reflect the light around the area, making everything feel brighter and more airy. By placing it near a window, it will reflect natural light as well as artificial light which really do give the illusion of space and allows you to indulge in vanity every now and again.

You can pick up a mirror from various thrift stores and antique shops. Remember that even though it may be quite a large expense, you are saving money by not replacing carpets and varnishing walls. Keep your eyes peeled for a bargain!

Step 3 – Keep your windows clear

Ditch your old nylon curtains and install some vertical blinds instead. This will allow the light to shine through even when they are closed and they take up far less space when they are open. This would be a good time to give your windows a good clean and try to remove any clutter from the windowsills. This will allow more light into your room and make it feel airy and spacious.

Step 4 – Move your furniture around

The idea of fang shui seems to have been left in the late ninety’s, but moving your furniture around can have a dramatic effect on your space, therefore just have an afternoon of moving your stuff around and see which works best. It is often refreshing to move your furniture about as the change makes it feel like a new room on its own.

Step 5 – Creatively Accessorize!

Candles are a great minimal centerpiece that makes your home smell great too! Another option is to buy some multicolored throws and lighten up your furniture instead of buying completely new. If you have any other ideas how to spruce up your living area I would love to hear them.
