What Kind of Dining Table Do You Have?

Sharing is caring!

Our dining room is one of the most happening and busy rooms in our home. All of the meals take place here each day as well as homework, arts and crafts, family meetings, etc.   With five boys we knew a sturdy, yet comfortable, table  was a must at our home. Our boys can literally destroy anything, they broke a dumbbell for crying out loud. When we purchased our  dining furniture  we knew we wanted a marble table top for durability, a rectangular table to easily seat 8+ people, and a table that would give us the option of bench seating for our children. Family style seating that is comfortable is very important to us.

What are you looking for in dining room furniture? What are the key elements that are important to you? Is shape, table top material/construction, seating capacity, features, size or cost  important to you?

What about china cabinets? Do you have one? Is this a luxury to you or a necessity for storage purposes? Does it match your dining furniture?  Did you purchase it new or is a a family heirloom? We do not have a  china cabinet  and it is honestly a piece of furniture that has always been a luxury to me and is on my list to eventually purchase.

I would love to know more about your dining room!

No china so no china cabinet. However, I have a Howard Miller cherry display piece that holds my Lladros, 4 plates of Limoges, 2 porcelain dolls, and my FIL’s ashes. When looking for a table, collapsibility and expandibility were important as was price. I got a great table at auction for $250 – mahogany, drop leaf. It can seat 2 – 12. It blends nicely with the antique dresser turned into buffet, and antique gate leg table in the dining room.

  2. My dining room is a playroom! lol

Our dining room needs a makeover, it has carpet, & it’s just boring. So we decided to use it as a dining room & we have a nice table that can fold down & be moved into the corner & when we need it we can move back out.

When I get my new hard wood floors (someday) then I will get the dining room all set up!

  3. Well, we don’t have a dining room at home. Haha! I do hope to one day have one. I’ve got a feeling when I go to look at houses/apartments in a year or so, I’m not going to be that picky about a dining room. lol I guess I’d like something that just looked nice and worked.

  4. We don’t have a dining room. We have a dining area between the living room and kitchen. It has a cheap, large oval table that is shoved up against the wall. We should be able to sit 6 people but the room only allows us to seat 4 because it is too narrow. I would rather have a round or square table but it won’t work in the space we have.

No dining room for us either and we eat in the kitchen and my kitchen table set… is missing a chair! So if we have any more kids we’ll need a new table set to get us all at the table for meals. Meals as a family are so important to me.

  6. I love my dining room as it is now and hope it lasts for years to come. It has a china cabinet with shelves for display of other items. Our table is large with 2 leafs to expand it. It can seat up to 10, but very close together!

  7. Our dinning room set was passed down to us from our parents. We love it and hope to have it for many years.
