Best Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe

Sharing is caring!

Right now my family is addicted to grilled cheese sandwiches and I blame it all on my friend Kim.

See, early last summer she got me hooked on Trader Joe’s. So each week we make a trip together with our kids.

I generally grab a loaf of their bread and it has no preservatives. This means we have to refrigerate it. Well, I am not a fan a refrigerated bread, but if it is grilled or toasted, who cares.

Kim also warned me that Trader Joe’s has the best American cheese slices on the planet. The rest is history. (It is all her fault!)

Needless to say, grilled cheese sandwiches have become a regular for our daytime lunch rotation, and for quick and easy dinners.

Here is how I make them.

Ingredients:

bread, 2 slices per sandwich  (we use Trader Joe’s)

American cheese slices, 2 slices per sandwich (we use Trader Joe’s)

2 T (give or take) of real butter for each sandwich

I use this this griddle. I grill these over a 4-5 heat on an electric stove.

Place a pat of butter on the already warm griddle.

Let it start to melt.

Put two pieces of bread over the butter.

Check it after about a 45 seconds. If it is starting to brown it is time to turn.

When you are turning the bread throw on another pat of butter in the breads place.

Then, when you lay the butter down on the non-grilled side, place it right on top of the melting butter.

Repeat on the other side.

Let them toast for about half the time as you did before.

Top the cheese with the other bread slice putting the most toasted side up against the cheese. We will flip it in a second to finish toasting.

As soon as the side that is down is a nice golden brown (at this point it has been down for 30 seconds or so…. so it won’t be long) slip it.

Oh man, this is amazing!!!

Butter is the key. Don’t be skimpy on the butter. You can work out later on the treadmill if you want.

The best thing is, this sandwich makes the perfect cold weather comfort food, or the greatest summertime sandwich!
