Diaper Rash Home Remedy

Sharing is caring!

All of my boys had bad diaper rashes at one time or another while they were babies. It is one of the most excruciatingly painful things that happens so quickly. Change of diet, teething, medicine, illness and allergies are just a few of the reasons many babies get diaper rashes.

Here is a recipe for a diaper rash home remedy. While all of my babies are out of diapers, I made some of this up and gave it to a friend to use on her little one who gets bad diaper rashes from time to time.

It worked. Within one diaper change.  Redness, pain and inflammation gone. And, it is made of natural things from the earth.

This is super easy to make and uses just two ingredients. Takes all of two minutes to make.

  1. I just posted a similar recipe on my blog after my son had bad diaper rash. It’s awesome! Great minds think a like! 🙂

    1. I just popped over and read yours. Do you like Gentle Baby? What does it smell like?

      1. Sorry for the late reply! I do like Gentle Baby. It smells soft, sweet and a little earthy. I use it in my kid’s baths at night too, to wind them down. I definitely recommend it!

  2. This is a great idea. My daughter’s diaper rashes get worse with the diaper rash cream from the store. I use bag balm and have been very lucky she does not get really bad ones. She is getting older now but I may buy some lavender just in case it is needed. Thanks.

    1. This blend is also great on skinned knees and irritations caused be friction. I used it on my 5 year old grandson’s knee and it soothed his pain and repeated applications daily healed his knee within 5 days. Now he asks me to put it on him whenever he has a booboo!?

  3. Coconut oil is amazing stuff! A friend of mine made some diaper rash salve for me as well, and I love it! Hers added chamomile, rose petals, and (I think) comfrey. Good stuff!

    1. I have seen a couple of variations online. This one seems to be the simplest and coconut oil and lavender have such amazing healing and soothing properties.
I bet the rose petals make it smell amazing!

  4. I am making this for my grand daughter’s little behind. She gets such horrible rashes. I wish I would have known this when my grandson was in diapers. He got bad rashes too. Coconut oil is so wonderful for some many things. Thanks for linking up to Tips and Tricks. Hope to see you again this week.

  5. Thanks so much for this easy recipe! I actually have both ingredients in my house right now. I’ll be sharing this on Pinterest and Facebook.

  6. Would this be safe for a cloth diapers?

  7. How do you apply this remedy? Clean rash area with soft warm wet cloth, let dry and apply colony oil and lavender ointment? Please help! My baby boy has a bad diaper rash and I am ready to use this ointment!

    1. Change his diaper and wipe him clean as you normally would and apply the ointment to the skin just as you would any other diaper rash cream. It is soothing and removes the redness quickly.

  11. How long can can you keep this in jar? Or it’s good for until it runs out ?

    1. It is as good as the shelf life of the coconut oil. So look for the expiration date on the coconut oil. The essential oils (Young Living) do not expire.

  12. So glad I found this! Thank you! My 80 year old mother has a rash so I followed this and I am a young living distributor also so I added a few drops of peppermint and she is all good in 1 day! She was crying in pain before I applied this and now is in NO pain. Thank you so much!!!!

  13. Hello just stumbled on this. Can I use this for my 1 month old baby?
