Sharing is caring!

This biscuits and gravy casserole recipe is one that we’ve been making at my house for a handful of years now. It will for sure be a huge hit at your house, too.

It is so easy to make and feeds a crowd- meaning it is the perfect large family breakfast. Let me show you just how easy it is to make.

The ingredient list is very simple and you likely already have everything on hand. This breakfast casserole is a twist on a tradition breakfast that my family loves.

Ingredients for Making Homemade Biscuits and Gravy Casserole:

  • 2 cans of jumbo flaky biscuits (store brand is fine)
  • 1 pound of ground breakfast sausage
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 2 cups of milk (might need a little more if it starts getting too thick while you’re cooking it)
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • non-stick spray

How to Make a Biscuit and Gravy Casserole:

First, let’s preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

And, let’s cook up your ground sausage.

I like to use my large electric skillet and I use this meat chopper so my sausage is very fine.

While the sausage is cooking, remove all of your biscuits from their container and cut each round biscuit into quarters. I like to use a pizza cutter.

Spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray.

Toss in the quartered biscuit pieces, evenly distributing them.

Add 3/4th of your cooked ground sausage on top of your biscuits.

Reserve the remaining ground sausage in the skillet. We will use it in just a bit.

Pop the casserole dish in the oven for about 30 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown.

While the dish is in the oven and there is about 15 minutes let’s make the gravy using the remaining ground sausage and the grease drippings.

In your skillet with the remaining cooked ground sausage, add two tablespoons of butter and let it melt in with the sausage over medium heat.

Once melted, add in the salt and pepper as well as the flour.

Stir and combine well.

Slowly start to add in the milk. You can use a whisk if it seems to be clumpy as the flour mixture and milk begin to combine.

Let it come to a slow boil and it will thicken. You can stir as needed so it does not burn.

Taste it and make sure it does not need more salt.

Once it’s the desired thickness and taste your biscuits should be ready to come out of the oven.

Pour the gravy mixture over the cooked biscuits and cooked sausage.

It’s ready to serve.

We love this and we serve it just like this.

You can scramble up some eggs on the side, but we just eat the biscuits and gravy. It really is a filling one dish meal.

What Goes Well With Biscuits and Gravy?

While we eat this as a one dish meal and find it very filling, you can certainly make fried or scrambled eggs or hashbrowns as a side.

Could I Just Use a Store Bought Gravy Mix

If you prefer to do that, it is not a problem at all. Just follow the directions on the back of the package.

How Do I Make White Gravy from Scratch Without Milk?

You can use water and cornstarch, but it will be a little different.

If you use just water by itself it will not thicken.
