Boys and Shoe Shopping
There must be something naturally inherited into boys.
The boredom that shopping brings them.
The lack of interest.
It just puts them right to sleep. A shopping coma.
Sunday after church, Matthew and I made a trip to Stride Rite to purchase his first official pair of walking shoes. Actually, Nicky went with us as well… if you’ve read the Itchy Post, then you know it is very hard to get out of the house without little Nicky. He is my shadow. And Daddy’s shadow. Soft spoken and wild all at the same time and never far from our reach.
All of my children have been orientated to walking with a pair of Stride Rite shoes. (Although Matthew has officially been walking since he was 10 months old…. it takes a while to make it over to the shoe store.)
Let me just say this…. all of my children have had pretty good size feet.
Fat feet.
Wide feet.
Hard to find a good fit feet.
Matthew’s foot measures a 4 1/2. His foot is so fat (especially the top of his foot) that we had to jump up to a 5 1/5 extra wide just to get his foot into the shoe. We tried so many different shoes- most of them his foot just would not wedge into.
And he just slept through it all. We chose the shoe on the left.
Thank you to the sweet young gal at Stride Rite on Sunday afternoon. You were more than helpful as we searched for a shoe that would fit his fat little feet.
And as Matthew continued to sleep in his stroller, we strolled through the candy store. The big candy store. The one that we have never stepped foot into and makes every child’s eyes as big as silver dollars. Nicky was mesmerized. I had to tell him he could not taste the candy and then stick it back in the bin. He was a cutey about it.
We purchased candy to bring home for everyone. Twenty dollars does not go far in a candy shop- but we had fun!
Then… we headed home. Excited to eat candy and make a dental appointment after all the candy is enjoyed!

Shoe shopping has to be among my favourite things in the world however my little one completely disagrees!!! The candy shop looks pretty amazing too!
How fun! I actually wish I could put my kids in a coma before I took them shoe shopping. I think it would be much more enjoyable for me. The candy store is always a hit!!
Sooooo cute! Kids are amazing. No way could I sleep thru someone stuffing my feet into some shoes. Good choice on the shoes.
Lucky Nicky! I bet he was in awe of the candy.
Too funny! It never ceases to amaze me what kids will sleep through. I agree that it's hard wired though. My girls see a shoe store and they immediately want 7 new pairs. 🙂
I looove shoes! Although I haven't bought what I would call "walking shoes" since high school.
I like the ones you picked! very stylish
