Father’s Day

Sharing is caring!

Last night we took the kids to see the much awaited Toy Story 3! I was just as excited as they were.

We do not go to the movies a lot, but when we do I want the whole experience. Popcorn, candy, drinks…. you know the $100 treatment for a large family at the movie theatre.

We went the 3D route, so we thought. Soon cool cousin Lucas (who will be a sophomore in the fall and had far more dignity and skill to run from the camera than the little children) realizes that we are the only movie go-ers in the room with 3D glasses on. It was finally determined we apparently did not make it into the correct auditorium, but we were already snuggled into our seats with popcorn passed around and drinks half chugged. So, we stayed where we were.

(No other pictures to share. Obviously some were smart enough to run from the camera with their glasses than to be photographed and possibly humiliated on the blog. Life is tough you know.)

Toy Story 3 was great. The kids loved it. I spent 1 hour and 49 minutes feeling absolutely awful about my recent Goodwill trip where I bagged up three trash bags full of worn out toys and donated them to a good cause. I promised myself to never do that again as apparently toys talk when we leave the room and being donated or placed in the attic is still under great debate as to destroying a toys ego.

Then we came home to tuck the kids in bed and as we slid over toys in the the twins room I realized something. If these toys really talked and walked when we left the room, why the heck don’t they make it into the toy box when the lights go off?

Suddenly my psyche was in ruin.

Nonetheless, a fantastic movie! Made me a bit teary as I watch my kids grow. As much as these younger years leave me perplexed and challenged some days, I get it. I totally get it.

I am going to miss this and I know it.

Today the little guys have dug out their Buzz Lightyear and Woody toys- to infinity and beyond!

One more thing…. Barbie… she walks kinda funny. Anyone else notice that? Hum. I guess in order to be that ‘physically proportioned’ you would walk a little funny. And she is very very emotional! Drama, drama, drama!

Father’s Day. It is a pretty low key holiday around here. For some reason Lenny is not so keen on being made a big deal of. So I am granting his wish.

In celebration of a man who works really hard for his family I am making him the dinner of his choice. I asked him to pick something from the Pioneer Woman cookbook… since he really wishes I was a pioneer kinda gal.

Here is the menu:

Pioneer Woman Chicken Spaghetti
Pioneer Woman Garlic Cheese Bread
Pioneer Woman Black Berry Cobbler

I thought about making some stiff drinks and getting him drunk but I am told the liquor stores are not open on Sunday’s here in Texas. Hum.

Besides, who would watch after the children once we are three sheets to the wind?

So instead, we will drink sweet tea and play board game with the kids and eat our yummy dinner.

Happy Father’s Day to all the hard working Dad’s out there!
