Happy 6th Birthday Nick and Luke
Good Morning Nick and Luke,
Six years ago today at 9:53 and 9:54 am., two sweet little womb mates came screaming into our lives.
SCREAMING.
I kid you not.
I thought this was going to be easy.
The whole twin thing, ya know.
I mean after all, twins are cute and you dress them the same, and you push this double stroller and you have a nifty diaper bag, and…..
you go without sleep for about two years. Or more.
My naive impressions flew out the window before we were wheeled out of that operating room and headed back to our recovery room.
What in the world have I gotten myself into?
I love you boys. I absolutely adore you both. Your personalities on February 10, 2006, and your personalities today, six years later, are just the same.
Nicky, you’re still a passive guy who I refer to as the silent bomb. You’re the observer and thinker. You’re very much to yourself and the calmer of the two, but once someone makes you really mad, it is all over! You have grown into this very logical and analytical little guy. You ask the smartest questions, like, if I eat a marker will I die? I adore this about you- you are so literal.
Lukey, can I call you that until you’re 35? You my friend just might be the most dramatic child I have ever met. That first year Nicky and I would just look at each other like seriously? HE IS CRYING AGAIN? You have a heart of gold and can charm a room in seconds. Â And funny. You make people laugh until they pee their pants. You are SO funny!
I understand, kind of, that there will come a time when we will not watch Clifford and Curious George together. I understand that at some point you’re going to stop asking me to read Alexander and the No Good Very Bad Day to you. Â I understand that at some point the joys of slides and swings will be no more and mom and dad will no longer be cool…. until you have children.
Today Nicky, we are going to get you that turtle you’ve been begging for. And Luke, I don’t think you’re old enough for a car, like you’ve been asking for, but I was thinking a fish would be cool. What do ya think?
Happy Birthday boys. I adore and love you both!
Crayola doesn’t make a color to draw my love.
Love, Mommy
(Here is how I recapped the first year of raising twins.)

Awwww! Happy Birthday Nick and Luke! I love knowing you boys and watching you grow!
When your Mom, Lisa and I would get together, we never had to fight to hold a baby. Your Mom was exhausted, so she willingly let us hold you guys. Since there were 2 of you Lisa and I each got a little sweet baby boy to hold. I confess that at first I could not tell you guys apart, but as I got to know you it was easy. You are both awesome little boys who are growing up to be awesome little men. 🙂
Have a great day today and let’s go eat somewhere soon. I miss you boys!!
Kim
Hi Crystal,
I loved reading about your twins’ personalities. I also have boys, actually 3 and although they aren’t twins they are very close in age: a year and 4 months apart each. It truly is amazing that even though I’ve raised them exactly the same, they have such different personalities. You son Nicky sounds just like my youngest son David and your son Lukey sounds like my middle son Israel.
Blessings to you,
Eren
