Learning Naturally: Teaching Kids to Share #ThomasTime
As a homeschool family sometimes people share their advice with us whether we want it or not.
How will your kids socialize? How will they learn skills like sharing and effectively communicating with others? Don’t you worry about them being awkward and introverted?
Let me say this; our dynamic is very family oriented and family based. My boys are growing up in a large(r) family and know the value of solid relationships. Where better to start those relationships then at home?
This is something school is not responsible for teaching them. The same goes for learning to share. We learn this at home from our parents from developing the relationships with our siblings.
What better examples to demonstrate this than our parents, our siblings and our immediate family in general?
Home is the perfect place to learn life skills, like sharing.
Matthew is our baby, the last child. He wants what everyone else has. He wants things just like his brothers have. He wants to be like them.
These are the perfect opportunities to teach all of our boys about sharing and taking care of our family unit.
Rewind for a moment back to this past March when Matthew turned 4. He is a huge Thomas the Tank fan. He was so excited to share Thomas with his family and friends for his birthday.
Naturally, Thomas was his theme.
He loved inviting his friends and family. We shared memories and time with everyone at a local children’s pizza place, it was like Vegas for kids, if you know what I mean.
We shared food and games. Everyone shared gifts with Matthew. We shared goodie bags and treats.
As a parent, I love how Thomas the Tank encourages sharing your with friends.
Fast forward to now, and Matthew is still loving his Thomas the Tank. We have toys, we have books. We even subscribe to a Thomas and Friends magazine so he can get Thomas mail.
He loves to share all of this with his brothers.
I love watching my boys share tangible things together, but what really melts my heart, is the time we get together all day long to share and make memories while we homeschool.
I adore the natural ways we learn these life skills.
And then when the dog jumps into the mix and makes everyone laugh….
Naturally, they shared the Thomas the Tank storybook with McCoy, the dog, too!

How do you naturally teach your kids to share?
