Losing Weight and Getting in Shape

Sharing is caring!

I know I can share this with you guys because I imagine many of us have been there. That place. The one where you hate to even look at yourself in the mirror. That place where you are disgusted at what you see in the shower, and you just press ahead thinking soon it will go away.

I have arrived at that place and I do not like it one bit!

My Story

After having the twins I pretty much got down to my pre-pregnancy weight. I might have hung onto 10 pounds or so, but for the most part I was ok with that.

When I got pregnant with Matthew I gained a very reasonable amount of weight- 20 pounds. Take into account the 10 pounds I still carried from having the twins and it was likely a typical pregnancy weight.

After having Matthew I lost about half of that- nursing a baby does miracles in the weight loss department. Once I stopped nursing, when he was ten months old, I lost another 7-10 pounds and plugged along.

Let me interject, when I am not pregnant and not nursing a baby, I have discovered my eating habits are terrible. I run off of coffee until 2:00 pm. I grab a quick lunch before heading out to pick kids up from school.  A lunch that I generally eat on the run. When dinner time arrives I am starving. I am learing my portions for dinner are out of control.

In turn, I’ve put on weight since losing the after-baby-weight. Seriously!

Nutrisystem has agreed to sponsor me, providing me with a four month complimentary subscriptions to their weight loss system. I will share my journey with you guys, and probably look to you guys for some support and cheering, if you don’t mind.

I am about to divulge something to you that very few people know. Very few.

My weight on day one…

…is 166.5 pounds. (Sorry if the image is hard to read. The LED screen does not photograph well and I had to use the night vision feature to enhance the view of the screen. And one foot on the scale? The weight freezes and holds for a few seconds after displaying. Thank goodness it does because I have to squat and lean to get a good picture.)

Why Nutrisystem?

Because they really have things figured out for the client. Their weight loss system is based on the scientific understanding of eating foods that have a low Glycemic Index, which helps stabilize your metabolism and keep your blood sugar levels low steady (updated 1/28/11 to change word choice). Combine that with portion control (which I am realizing I struggle with) and eating frequently and you arrive at a recipe for success.

It’s actually kinda fun and I feel pampered. Part of my meals were delivered in one shipment and are frozen things like: ice cream, pancakes, omelets and glazed chicken. The rest of the meals are pantry ready like: muffins, granola bars, chocolate (hello!), cereals and soups.

I add produce, proteins and dairy and we are set. Nutrisystem also gives you a meal tracker to ensure you keep up with the foods you are eating and that you are eating often enough. There is also a section that guides you through portion sizes for each vegetable, fruit, protein, dairy, etc.

This is very handy, except for the very first day when you have a moment of memory lapse. Like say you are picking your little ones up from school and they had cookies for their afternoon snack. Both of your children possibly hand you a cookie and you proceeded to eat the two said cookies. And as you are leaving the mothers day out parking lot you freak out and remember, oh crap, I am on a diet. You try as hard as you can to remove the cookie(s) from your mouth, but you’ve already swallowed them.
I will now wear a shirt that says: Children, do not feed Mommy! She bites!
Water and Workout
For added success, because I am determined to look amazing despite the cookie incident, I will be drinking as much water as possible (my downfall is Starbucks and McAlister’s sweet tea) as well as working out at home using a DVD workout system and walking with the kids at the park as weather permits.
Tell me, have you ever tried Nutrisystem and what was your success? Maybe you know someone else who has, did they enjoy the program? What makes a diet hard for you to stick to it and what are your downfalls? Are you determined when it comes to dieting? I would love to hear from you!
Nutrisystem is providing their program free of charge to Crystal & Co. in lieu of participation in the Nutrisystem Nation Blogging Program.

  3. I know what you mean. I've been saying I need to drop some weight but then I never get serious about doing it. Well, I think I am at the point of getting serious. I don't like how I look or feel, my clothes don't feel good on me and I need to take better care of myself. I'll be following your journey. You can do it!
