Organic Garden: Day 59
On Monday morning when I went out to water my garden, waiting for me was a beautiful yellow flower amidst some squash leaves.
Garden day 55 brought one yellow flower.
This my fiend is exciting. I have waited and waited for progress other than comparing pictures from weeks past to prove to myself there is growth.
And as the week went on, more yellow flowers appeared.
By day 59, one plant had 4-5 yellow flowers. As I research gardening I am learning how important bees are to much of this process. My friend Kim mentioned it the other day and thanks to Google I am learning more. Bees are pretty vital to the growth of the flowers on these squash plants. We have lots of bees!
The leaves on these squash and zucchini plants are large and beautiful! They apparently love this Texas heat.
The squash and zucchini plants are really veining out and growing taller and taller.
My basil continues to thrive too.
Grow, baby grow!
As I look at the garden each day I see little change, but as I compare photos I can see things changing like in the lettuce.
My one surviving lettuce plant.
The three banana pepper plants are thriving too.
And my bell pepper plants are doing well too, but they look a lot like the banana pepper plants.
I am wondering if I mislabeled?
And if I only learn one thing from this gardening process it is….. don’t mess with nature.
My three tomato plants finally started taking off a bit, but they looked a tad restricted and exposed as the starter pods were beginning to show more and more with each watering. (Remember, I took the started pods and just planted them right into the raised beds once they started sprouting.)
So, on day 56 I pulled the three tomato plants up and pulled the biodegradable pod off from around the bound roots and replanted them into the ground. I thought this would help the plant… help it take off a bit more.
BAD idea! Really bad idea. By afternoon they were shriveled up. Ugh!
Here are the plants at day 59 and their comparison to photos taken before I jacked with them. I hope they are salvageable.
More garden updates to come. If you have any gardening resources to share (especially organic gardening) please do so in the comments!
