The Summer Sun Means… Baseball
The two big boys are playing baseball this summer. Just a local YMCA league. Nothing overly competitive. Neither of them have really ever played before but are trying to find ‘their sport’.
Actually Garrett played when he was 3. Which, by the way, is waaaay too young! He spent most of the game time sharing our snacks with parents. He liked to hit the ball, run to first base, then sit with momma.
By first grade we gave soccer a try. He played for 3-4 seasons, but it just never was anything he loved. He actually hated all the running. So scratch soccer off his list.
In fourth grade he played football and let’s just say that after his very first practice he got in the car and said, ‘Yeah, I don’t think this is my sport either’. The coaches yelled, the practices were 4-5 days a week, plus a game plus a scrimmage just about every week. We gave him fair warning when he BEGGED to sign up. Hey, that is Texas Football for ya!
Last summer he gave basketball a try. Probably his second best sport. He liked it, but did not love it. A good friend coached it and he really did well, and it was probably his favorite sport yet, until we gave baseball a try again this summer.
He thinks he’s found his sport… batting practice.
Usually Garrett and Anthony have practice on different nights of the week. With all the rain we had last week their makeup practices were both pushed to the same night. So we were at the fields for right at 2 hours….
Here is Anthony during batting practice. I snapped this right after he hit the ball. No worries, he did not hit the catcher.
And have I mentioned that boys are much like dogs? They want to mark their territory everywhere they go? Calm down, I caught them before they actually peed on the tree. The lady sitting near them did NOT find it funny at all.
Since I ruined all their fun, they decided to climb a tree instead. Do their faces just scream the word mischievous, or what?
And Matthew. He just sat quietly in his stroller. Very content the whole practice.
He spent a lot of time jabbering and making eyes with another little girl that was in her stroller, too. ‘Mom, don’t embarrass me. I’m talking to a girl…’ (Chicco strollers rock by the way!)

Mine aren't into baseball too much but they certainly love to climb trees!
Debbi- aren't boys fun?
Some parents just look at you like 'OMG, you're going to let them climb that tree?' It really was just a overgrown bush. They were maybe 2-3 feet off the ground.
The are boys! They may fall, but I bet you they will get up and do it again. Go explore!
(And I am very very close by… they holler when they need me!)
