Twin Tips- Thanksgiving a Year Later (guest post)

Sharing is caring!

This week our Twins {& MORE} Board is going to share the things we are grateful for as well as our two cents on surviving the holidays with twins in tow. Today Sonora, who is a mom of identical twins who are about to enjoy their second Thanksgiving, shares how much life has changed since their first Thanksgiving.

. . . . . . . . . .

Life with twins is a never ending adventure. Every time you think you have seen it all, they hit a new milestone. This year, as Thanksgiving approaches, I have compiled a list of a few things I am thankful for that has to do mostly with the twins.

I am Thankful:

1. That it is this year and NOT last year.

Babies are sweet. Babies are wonderful, but when there are two or more, it is a little crazy. Last year at this time we were still up twice a night feeding the boys. This year, I am not a zombie and may actually remember Thanksgiving.

2. That the boys are old enough to understand what we are saying to them.

Life is so much easier when the kids understand what you are saying and can react accordingly some of the time. One of the phrases I am most thankful that they understand is, “Go to sleep.” I can give them their blankies and pacifiers, say the phrase, and walk out and THEY UNDERSTAND!

3. That the boys can sit at the table like regular people.

It is so nice to be able to sit at the table with the boys and not be constantly worrying that they are going to fall. They are old enough that I can give them some food to occupy themselves with and then I can actually SIT DOWN and EAT some of my own food before it gets cold.

4. I was born as someone with a hidden talent to referee and who loves to laugh.

This may not sound like a blessing, but when you have two 15 month olds, a two year old, and a five year old it is a lifesaver. The three youngest regularly fight over the EXACT SAME TOY and do not hesitate to retaliate with hitting and throwing. I spend the vast majority of my day refereeing and if I didn’t have the ability to laugh at the situation, I’d go crazy!

5. For their being old enough to interact with.

Every day we can see more and more of their distinct and sweet little personalities emerging and can interact and play with them. There is nothing sweeter than the sound of baby giggles and with two babies, there are twice as many.

6. For naps and bedtime

I love my babies. I have so much fun with them and am so excited to share their lives with them, but those few hours during the day when the house is quiet and I have a few minutes to think or do something just for myself are cherished moments. I think they are made even sweeter because of how hard they are to come by.

7. For my sister and her kids who are letting us congregate at her house for Thanksgiving.

She has six kids, with number seven on the way. Her house is stockpiled with toys and cousins for my kids to play with and great company for the adults, giving us all something to be thankful for.

8. Finally, I am thankful for knowing how truly blessed I am to have four beautiful children. No matter the craziness, no matter the stress, I am truly blessed and for that I can never be thankful enough!

May your Thanksgiving’s be filled with lists upon lists of things to be thankful for!

Sounds like there's a lot to be thankful for!

  2. the greatest thing EVER in parenting is when 'babies' become 'little people' and you can start interacting with them, teaching them, exploring with them, talking with them, etc. that is SO cool!

  3. I'm so glad I stockpiled kids for ya! 😉 It is nice that they are getting older and more independent. They are little cuties!

  4. Liz- I could not agree more! It is amazing to me to hear the things my kids want to talk about as they become little people.

    Thanks for stopping by ladies.
