10 Reasons to Visit Puerto Rico
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Puerto Rico, The All-Star Island for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
Did you know I am married to a Puerto Rican fella? I am. And he can Salsa dance like it’s nobody’s business. So can his mother.
Over the years I have heard amazing stories about Puerto Rico. While Lenny has never visited there, his parents have. As a matter of fact, Lenny’s paternal grandparents were both born in Puerto Rico. They migrated to New York in the 1930’s. This was a five day journey by ship, might I add. Their children (my father-in-law included) were born in Brooklyn, New York. Then later my husband was born in Brooklyn as well.
My father-in-law and mother-in-law have visited family still in Puerto Rico many times. I hear this is one gorgeous haven! It is a dream of mine to be able to take our boys here someday to see this 270 mile island.
My father-in-law tells stories of going back to visit his grandmother in Puerto Rico who literally lived in a hut. A hut built of pallets and wood. This was common then. Eventually, in the mid 1940’s Ramey Air Force Base extended their runways and her hut butted right up to Gate 5 of the base. How crazy is that? My father-in-law remembers visiting and seeing the B52 jets (strategic air command) flying over his grandmothers hut so close he could see the landing gear clear as a whistle. Â The hut would shake. These are memories etched in his mind forever.
There is so much history in Puerto Rico. You would be blown away at all of the history.
Here are the top 10 reasons you should visit Puerto Rico. My in-laws helped me create this list. They love this island and wish everyone could visit and see the beauty it has to offer.
10 Reasons to Visit Puerto Rico
- No passport or foreign money needed. You know that Puerto Rico is a common wealth, right? It is part of the United States. Just hop on a plane and you’re off!
- There is always someone who speaks Spanish and English. My mother-in-law says this is huge for folks who are afraid they will not be able to communicate on vacation. She said every where you turn there is someone who speaks both languages.
- Puerto Rico is home to the only rainforest in the US. My in-laws say it is STUNNING. 5-8 foot large leaves on trees- and you don’t have to travel far to see this.
- Turquoise water and white sandy beaches. It is like a dream I am told. As a matter of fact it is rated as having some of the Top 10 beaches from Travel Channel!
- Speaking of white sandy beaches, the horseback riding on the beach is hands down amazing. It’s like watching a movie.
- Perfect weather. It’s like nothing you’ve ever experienced before. My father-in-law says the mornings might be a bit crisp, but it’s perfect.
- The history- oh, the history. My in-laws went on and on describing all of the beautiful history in Puerto Rico. My mother-in-law says the old churches are breath taking. You must go see them while you’re there. Put this on your list for sure!
- Highways in the mountains. My mother-in-law says this is an attraction to her all in itself. She says it is gorgeous to drive the highways in the mountains and all of the scenery.
- THE FOOD! I have eaten some of this amazing food when my mother-in-law cooks. Pasteles, plantanes, arroz con gandules (I make this too!), yuca…. she says the seafood is phenomenal. (I hear the rums are popular as well .)
- It’s like heaven on earth. There is literally something for everyone; kids, parents, adults, foodies, and more!

Anything history would likely be my first stop. I love exploring old buildings and reading all those little historical placards anywhere we go! I’m not a big beach fan but how could you possibly visit and island and never go to the beach?!
I hear ya! I had no idea all of the history that is on this island. It really is inspiring.
I’m sold! I love that you don’t need a passport (although I am going to go get one! I’m legal guardian for my 5 nephews and niece in South Africa if anything happens to my sister and her husband, and after they were attacked in December, I will get one!) You need to take your kids! My husband was born in Vietnam, and I would like to take my kids some day. It’s part of their heritage.
Yes ma’am, no passport! I am sold too. My husband will not fly but I am told there is a cruise that will take you to the island….
And my children seeing their heritage- yes!! Agree!
I have Puerto Rico on my list of places to see, a good friend of mine just got back and her pictures are amazing!!
Isn’t the water and beach just stunning? I could only imagine how gorgeous the pictures are!
Oh what a beautiful getaway this would make just about right now to avoid this cold weather up north!! I’ve been to Old San Juan and it was BEAUTIFUL indeed! So much history, food and entertainment!
Ana- isn’t the food just amazing. I love it when my mother-in-law cooks!
Oh my… Can I go to Puerto Rico right now? The thought of white sand beaches and the warmth of the sun is irresistible right now! I think that if I was to suddenly find myself in Puerto Rico, the top item on my list would be sitting in a lounge chair on the beach, with a big umbrella, a fruity beverage, and a great book. That would be amazing! Great post!
Me too Sara. I am right there with you. What a relaxing getaway this would be.
Oh my gosh, now I want to plan a trip for my fiancée and I!!! Gorgeous 😀
Destination wedding maybe?
Crystal who would not love sun and sand especially in puerto rico at a 5 star hotel. Geart story engaging graphic. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Patrice!
I don’t think anyone would have to convince me to travel to Puerto Rico! I’ve never been, but it sounds lovely! I had no idea that you didn’t need a passport! That’s pretty cool!
Yap, no passport needed!
The rain forest is amazing and you’re the food!!!!! We spent out honeymoon there and left the airport on a long layover some years later to find that great Cuban restaurant on our way to another island. Plus SW flies there now!
I have several friends from the island and this post has made me consider making this a destination vacation for our family soon! Thanks!
