Why We Love Reading Eggs

Sharing is caring!

As a homeschooling parent, I’ve always believed in allowing my children to lead with their learning. This approach has been a cornerstone of our educational journey, enabling each child to explore their interests and develop skills at their own pace.

Over the years, I’ve discovered that when it comes to reading, patience and the right tools can make a world of difference. One such tool that has profoundly impacted our homeschooling experience is an online app you’ve likely heard of, Reading Eggs.

Our most recent journey with Reading Eggs began with my then six-year-old, Jack. He was a bright and curious child, but like many children, he approached reading with a mix of apprehension and curiosity. I didn’t want to push him too hard. We’ve been homeschooling for a little over twelve years now. I am a firm believer that a love for reading grows naturally when children are ready. The last thing I wanted was for reading to become a chore. I actually used this same program to help my now 15 year old to build his reading confidence when he was just a little boy. It is an excellent resource as you teach your child to read and I knew if it helped us then, it would help us now.

Reading Eggs transformed Jack’s learning experience, making it engaging and fun. The app’s captured his imagination and help make reading an exciting adventure. With each lesson, Jack’s confidence grew, and so did his reading skills. It became a bit of a competition for him as he “completed levels” and maps. The app’s ability to make learning enjoyable was a game-changer for us.

One of the standout features of Reading Eggs is its accessibility. As a family that loves to travel, the app’s mobility is invaluable. Whether we’re at home, on the road, or visiting family, Jack can continue his reading journey without interruption. This came in really handy when my father-in-law had shoulder surgery earlier this year and Jack was able to take his tablet along and learn while we were at the hospital.

The success we saw with Jack inspired me to introduce Reading Eggs to our son who is two years older than Jack. Luke Henry has been somewhat a hesitant reader. He could read, but we would always hear him telling people that he could not read. He was not confident. He benefited immensely from Reading Eggs. The app tailored its approach to his level, providing just the right amount of challenge to keep him engaged without overwhelming him.  It actually tailored its approach to his level by providing a placement test feature so we quickly knew the areas where he was struggling and he could dive in getting help in the right areas. Watching him transition from a tentative reader to a confident one has been incredibly rewarding.

What truly sets Reading Eggs apart is its adaptability. The app offers a wide range of activities and lessons designed to cater to various age groups and learning stages. This means it can meet children exactly where they are in their reading journey. For our family, this has been particularly significant.

For our youngest boys, the joy of reading has blossomed into a full-blown passion. Reading Eggs sparked their interest and now, they eagerly anticipate our monthly field trip to the public library. It’s a awesome to see them excited about selecting new books, ready to embark on fresh adventures. This enthusiasm for reading is something I attribute largely to our experience with Reading Eggs.

Reading Eggs doesn’t just teach kids to read; it fosters a genuine love for reading. It’s this love that has made our homeschooling journey so fulfilling. The app’s comprehensive approach, combining phonics, sight words, and comprehension, ensures that young learners develop a well-rounded reading ability. I love that they include rewards of achievement, motivating children to keep progressing.

Reflecting on our experience, I realize that Reading Eggs has played a pivotal role in our decision to embrace online homeschooling fully. Seeing how effectively the app supported Jack and Luke Henry, I felt confident that we could successfully transition these boys to an online learning environment for all subjects. Reading Eggs proved that with the right tools, online education could be both effective and enjoyable.

Reading Eggs has been an invaluable resource for our homeschooling family. It has transformed reluctant readers into enthusiastic book lovers, provided a flexible learning platform that fits our busy lives, and reinforced the principle that learning should be fun and child-led. If you’re a homeschooling parent looking for a way to support your child’s reading development, I wholeheartedly recommend giving Reading Eggs a try.

This is a sponsored post by Reading Eggs. That said, I have been a user for close to a decade and pay for my own subscription for my children. I would give this review and input to a friend or a stranger who needed something to hep their young learner with reading. It’s an excellent tool.
