What Can You Top Baked Doughnuts With?

One of my favorite things about baked doughnuts is their versatility. With these chocolate doughnuts, you could sprinkle the frosting with espresso powder, toss the cake doughnuts in cinnamon-sugar or sugar-cocoa, or toss some crushed pecans in melted butter and then sprinkle them over the frosted chocolate cake donuts.

Pretty much anything would make for an amazing topping for these super versatile donuts.

How Long Do Chocolate Donuts Last?

This is a really critical question. Because, frankly, I like to make donuts–and I like to eat them. And I HATE throwing them out. So, I expect my donuts to rest on the counter, in an airtight container, for 3-5 days. If you don’t put them in an airtight container, you run the risk of your donut drying out.

And that would just be sad, so put them in an airtight container. Trust me.

But if you want them to last longer than that, you should plan on putting your donuts, in that airtight container, in the fridge. This will help your donuts last for 8-10 days. After that, they will start to dry out.

Can you Freeze Apple Donuts?

Yes! I have frozen them in an airtight container and it’s not PERFECT, because freezing the donuts can cause the frosting to crack, but it can be done. And you can expect your donuts to last 3-5 months in the freezer.

So, if you’re planning on making these a few days/weeks/months, maybe just don’t frost them, then you have nice, perfect donuts ready for frosting.

When you plan to have your donuts for breakfast again, just pull them out of the freezer and microwave for 1-minute each!
