Homemade Birthday Cupcakes for Your Doggy

Sharing is caring!

Have you ever made a birthday cake or cupcakes to celebrate your pups birthday?

This is our first year to do it and it was a super fun family project.

These are made with peanut butter, shredded carrots, honey for sweetness and just a few other ingredients.

McCoy’s gotcha day is coming up on July 27th and we thought these would be perfect to help us celebrate the day he became part of our family.

Let me show you how easy these are to make.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 cup organic, peanut butter*
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large shredded carrot
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 egg

Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, at room temperature
  • ½ cup smooth, organic, peanut butter*
  • 1 T honey

*Please note, make sure that your peanut butter does not contains xylitol.

In a standing mixer combine all of the ingredients for the cake.

Mix on medium speed until well combine.

This mixture is thick.

Add 12 cupcakes liners to a cupcake pan.

Fill the liners half way up with cake batter.

Pop the pan in a 350° oven for about 25 minutes.

When you insert a knife in the middle of a cupcake and it comes out clean, they are done.

Remove them from the oven and place the cupcakes on a cooling rack.

Meanwhile, in your standing mixer with the whisk attachment, combine the ingredients for the frosting and whip that up.

When the cupcakes are cool, frost them.

Add a small milk bone to the top of each cupcake or a bacon dog treat once you have frosted them.

McCoy loves the bacon treats!

Now, celebrate your sweet dog!

You know, McCoy was rescued from an animal shelter that euthanized. He was being walked back to be put down when he was saved!

My boys wanted a dog so badly. I was really concerned about adding a dog to our family, but we’ve never looked back. It’s been two years but it seems like he’s been a part of our family forever. He travels with us. He runs errands with us. He even sleeps in my bed, for crying out loud. He steals the covers and I just don’t want to bother him to get my covers back. Every time I come home from Target with groceries he knows there is something in the bag for him. He is just such a sweetie. Our boys love him so much.

mccoy dogust party

Every year, North Shore Animal League America celebrates the first day of August as DOGust which is the universal birthday for all Shelter Dogs whose birthdays are unknown.

To celebrate dogs (the good, the bad and the mess), I have teamed up with Bounty to provide dog owners nationwide ideas for how to celebrate their adopted dogs’ birthday and these cupcakes are a must!!

  9. Aawww that’s really cute. We don’t really celebrate our dogs birthday but we do give him a sweet treat from time to time. I have to try this!

  10. My dogs are my babies too. I have three of them. Our oldest dog came from the shelter too. My husband found her hiding in a cat cage. She was a small dog. Poor thing looked so scared. My husband did the food test on her, he tried taking food from her. Some dogs will growl or bite to protect their food. She didn’t care. We immediately put in our application to take her home. The entire car ride, she sat very timid in my husband’s lap. It took her a bit to trust us but now the rest is history. She is one of the best dogs.

Our other two weren’t adopted from the shelter but they too are loved dearly.
