The ingredients needed to make homemade German pancakes are things that you likely already have in your pantry and fridge. The recipe uses common basic ingredients.

Let me show you the ingredients you will need to make this pancake recipe.

Ingredients Needed to Make German Pancakes at Home

  • 6 eggs
  • 4 T butter
  • 1 c milk
  • 1 c all purpose flour
  • 1 t vanilla
  • dash of salt

How to Make Homemade German Pancakes

First, preheat oven to 425 degrees.

While the oven is preheating you want to add the butter to your 9×13 casserole dish and place it in the oven so the butter melts. This is a super important step that you don’t want to skip.

While the butter is in the oven melting, grab a mixing bowl and add in the eggs, milk, flour, salt and vanilla.

Whisk it and blend until smooth.

The melted butter should be ready now in the 9×13 casserole dish that you put into the oven. Remove the casserole dish from the oven and pour batter into the dish.

You will see the edges begin to cook because of the butter. This is what is supposed to happen. Place the 9×13 baking dish back into the oven.

Bake the German Pancakes for 20 minutes or until golden brown and puffy.

Let the kids watch it bake by turning on the oven light while it is cooking. It really is a super neat experience to see it grow as it puffs up.

Remove the dish from the oven and dust it generously with powdered sugar.

How beautiful is this puff pancake?

Serve it with fresh fruit on top if you like.

You could also serve it with some whipped cream topping as well.

Why Did My German Pancakes Not Rise?

Either your oven or pan was not hot enough. Ensure you melt the butter in the pan while the oven is preheating. Just putting previously melted butter into the pan is not going to work. The pan and the butter need to heat up in the oven together before anything else is added to the pan.
