Ingredients Needed for this Recipe

Here’s what you need for this easy recipe!

  • Vegetable OilVegetable oil is a great choice for bean soup recipes for a few reasons. First, it has a high smoke point, which means it can be heated to a high temperature without burning. This is important because beans need to be cooked at a high temperature in order to soften them. Second, vegetable oil is neutral in flavor, so it won’t interfere with the taste of the soup.
  • Small OnionSmall Onion is a great addition to any bean soup recipe. Not only does it add flavor, but it also helps to thicken the soup and give it a richer texture. Small onions are also a good source of fiber and protein, which makes them a healthy option for those who are looking to lose weight or maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • GarlicGarlic is a common ingredient in many bean soup recipes. While it may seem like an odd choice, garlic actually has a number of benefits that make it well-suited for soups. First of all, garlic is a natural flavor enhancer. This means that it can help to bring out the other flavors in the soup, making them more pronounced.
  • Cajun SeasoningCajun Seasoning is a great addition to any bean soup recipe. The spices in Cajun Seasoning add a depth of flavor that is often missing in bean soup recipes. Cajun Seasoning also adds a bit of heat to the soup, which can be a nice contrast to the blandness of beans.
  • Dried ParsleyIf you’re looking for a way to add some extra flavor to your bean soup recipes, consider using dried parsley. Dried parsley is an herb that is typically used to add flavor to dishes like sauces, stews, and soups. While it can be used fresh, it is more commonly used in its dried form.
  • 15-Bean Blend15-Bean Blend is a popular choice for bean soup recipes because it provides a variety of flavors and textures. The beans in the blend are all different colors, shapes, and sizes, which gives the soup a more interesting appearance. In addition, the beans have different cooking times, so they all retain their individual texture and flavor.
  • Bacon StripsBacon strips are a delicious and easy way to add flavor to any dish, but they are especially good in bean soup recipes. The bacon fat adds richness and depth of flavor to the soup, and the meaty bits of bacon provide a nice contrast to the creamy beans.
  • Diced HamDiced ham is a great ingredient for bean soup recipes. The ham provides a rich, smoky flavor that complements the beans perfectly. In addition, the ham adds a hearty texture to the soup that is sure to satisfy even the heartiest of appetites.
  • Chicken BrothChicken broth is a versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of different recipes. One of the most popular uses for chicken broth is in bean soup recipes. Chicken broth adds flavor and depth to bean soup, and it also helps to thicken the soup.

If you’ve ever made bean soup, you may have wondered why the recipes always call for discarding the soaking water. After all, it seems like a waste to just pour all that water down the drain! So, why do bean soup recipes call for discarding the soaking water?

There are actually a few good reasons.

First of all, bean soaking water can be quite starchy and cloudy. This can make your soup look unappetizing and affect the flavor.

How Can You Thicken Bean Soup?

Bean soup is a delicious and healthy option for a winter meal. However, sometimes bean soup can be too thin and watery.

If you find yourself with a soup that is too thin, there are a few things you can do to thicken it up. One option is to add some cooked rice or pasta to the soup. This will add both bulk and body to the soup. Another option is to puree some of the beans in the soup.

This will create a thicker consistency without changing the flavor of the soup.

Finally, you can add some cream or cheese to the soup. This will add richness and depth of flavor.

With these simple tips, you can easily turn a thin bean soup into a hearty and satisfying meal.

Yield: 8 Servings
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 35 minutes
Additional Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes

This bean soup recipe is hearty and filling, perfect for a cold winter day.

Ingredients

  • 1 Teaspoon Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Small Onion, diced
  • 2 Cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 Teaspoons Cajun Seasoning
  • 1 Teaspoon Dried Parsley
  • 1 20-ounce Package 15-bean Blend
  • 5 strips Bacon, cut into one-inch pieces
  • 1 8-ounce Package Diced Ham
  • 4 Cups Water
  • 4 Cups Chicken Broth

Instructions

  1. Set the Instant Pot to saute mode and add vegetable oil. Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the minced garlic and saute for one minute.
  2. Turn off the Instant Pot and add one cup of chicken broth. Deglaze the pot by scraping the bottom of the pan to remove stuck-on onion and garlic. Season with Cajun seasoning and parsley.
  3. Add the beans, bacon, diced ham, water, and remaining chicken broth. Stir to combine.
  4. Place the lid on the Instant Pot and seal the vent. Set the Instant Pot to pressure cook for 35 minutes.
  5. When the cook time is up, allow the Instant Pot to naturally release for 10 minutes, then do a quick release to remove remaining pressure. Stir soup before serving.

Notes

To thicken the soup, mash some of the beans using a potato masher. Stir to combine.
