What You Need to Make Apple Butter Cake
Cake Ingredients:
- 2/3 cup butter
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 cups apple butter
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda (not baking powder)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 Tablespoon cinnamon, to taste
- 1 teaspoon apple pie seasoning, to taste
Frosting Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup cream cheese
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Milk or whipped cream, if desired
How to Make Apple Butter Cake
Preheat you oven to 350 degrees and line a 9×13 cake pan or loaf pan with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugars together until light and fluffy.
Add the apple butter and vanilla extract.
In a second medium bowl, combine the dry ingredients.
Combine the dry ingredients in the wet ingredients in 1/3 increments, stirring between each increment.
Fold the batter into the prepared pan.
Bake the cake for 40-50 minutes. The cake is done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
For the frosting, cream the cream cheese, butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
Add vanilla and milk or whipping cream, if desired, to thin the frosting.
Spread the vanilla cream cheese frosting on the apple butter cake.
You can garnish with chunks of apple with ice cream or just with slices of fresh apples. I don’t know, there’s a lot of apple here…so I might just go cake-a-la-cake with this one! LOL!
How Long Does Apple Butter Cake Last?
You can expect apple butter cake to last about 3.5 seconds in my house because, frankly, every kiddo wants a slice–or two or three or four.
If you don’t have that problem or can control the little hands in your life, you can expect this delicious cake to last about 5 days on the counter without drying out. Keep it in an airtight container, though, or it will get dry on the outside edges pretty quick.
To keep the cake for longer, place it in the fridge inside that airtight container. This cake tastes incredibly good chilled, so I would have zero complaints about eating it directly from the fridge, or letting it warm to room temperature. Either is awesome.
Can You Freeze Apple Butter Cake?
Absolutely. Just slip it into that airtight container and then into the freezer. You can rely on it to last 3-5 months and then, just let it sit out on the counter for a couple hours or in the fridge overnight. Then your slice of cake will be ready for your tongue!
