Ingredients Needed for this Recipe

Here’s what you need to make this easy meal!

  • Lean Ground BeefLean ground beef is the key to making a delicious homemade Lasagna. Lean ground beef has just enough fat to give the lasagna a rich, robust flavor without overpowering it. Lean ground beef cooks faster so you can spend more time enjoying your well-deserved meal on the table!
  • Jar Pasta SauceMaking lasagna at home can be a daunting task, but thanks to jarred pasta sauce, it’s much easier. The best jar sauce for a delicious lasagna is one that contains minimal sugar and ingredients as well as robust flavor. Look for a sauce that has little sodium and plenty of heart-healthy herbs and spices such as oregano or basil.
  • Medium OnionIf you’re making a homemade lasagna, you’ll want to get the best ingredients. When it comes to onions in the dish, medium onions are the way to go. Not only do they add flavor and texture that other sizes don’t, but their size makes them easy to chop into consistent pieces for your lasagna.
  • SaltSalt provides a variety of benefits for homemade lasagna recipes. It helps flavor the different ingredients like cheese, tomatoes, and herbs. It also incorporates texture, helping to contrast the texture of the noodles from the cheeses and sauces. But beyond that, salt works to bring out and intensify both sweetness and savory notes in the recipe.
  • Garlic PowderGarlic powder is a healthy and delicious way to amp up the flavor of a homemade lasagna recipe. It gives dishes a pleasantly pungent aroma and adds just the right amount of spice.
  • Lasagna NoodlesIf you’re making a freezer-friendly lasagna recipe, the type of noodle is just as important as all of the other ingredients. The ones that work the best are oven-ready lasagna noodles. These get tender, hold their shape and don’t require pre-cooking, which makes them incredibly simple to use.
  • RicottaRicotta cheese is a key ingredient in any classic lasagna dish. Not only does it give the dish rich flavor thanks to its creaminess, but it also adds loads of texture. Ricotta’s unique combination of ingredients helps it bind together all the other ingredients, such as flavorful sauces and savory meats.
  • Italian Blend CheeseItalian Blend Cheese is definitely a must for anyone looking to make Lasagna with that traditional Italian flavor. As it’s made with a combination of two cheeses – mozzarella and provolone – it gives just the right amount of gooeyness to the dish as you bake it in the oven.
  • Italian SeasoningItalian seasoning has long been the secret behind successful recipes at home. It has a unique blend of herbs, like oregano, basil, thyme and rosemary, that give wonderful flavor and texture on dishes.

What is the Best Dish to Freeze Lasagna In?

When it comes to making lasagna, the best dish to freeze it in is one that can withstand temperature changes and keep your lasagna tasting delicious. Glass or ceramic baking dishes are great choices because they heat evenly and won’t warp easily, which can happen with metal dishes.

Both glass and ceramic are better able to hold in the moisture of cooked sauces, keeping the texture of the lasagna intact. It’s also important to leave room in the pan; those added inches let you get a secure lid on top of your dish without risk of too much pressure compromising the structural integrity of your container.

When you’re ready for dinner, make sure not to thaw frozen lasagna directly into a hot oven; make sure to always thaw it first!

What are Some Tips for Baking Homemade Lasagna?

Baking homemade lasagna is a great way to bring the family together in the kitchen. Lasagna is perfect for weeknight dinners as it is hearty, satisfying and can be prepared with items you likely already have on hand. To make a delicious lasagna that is sure to become a family favorite, there are several tips that will make the process go smoothly!

First, use enough sauce–both in-between layers of noodles and on top of the final layer. This will help keep the noodles from drying out during baking. Second, cover your lasagna when you bake it to help less-cooked noodles get cooked through and prevent over-browning.
