The Best Way to Store Handmade Ornaments

I know we don’t like to think about storing ornaments yet, because, frankly, we’re just freaking putting them up! But the deal is, there’s about a million ways to store ornaments.

And, while I’m no expert and things have gotten broken on more than one occasion, I have learned my lessons over the years and have a few ideas of how to store Christmas ornaments.

So, here’s the skinny on what I do to store my ornaments. First, I don’t go out any buy every new ornament box ever made. There are some cool ones out there, but at the end of the day, I have found that not every ornament fits in a pre-designed box.

So, I grab an old canning jar box. You know, the ones with the flexible cardboard dividers? Yeah, those boxes that are perfect for storing canning jars. They are also perfect for ornaments. Those dividers will shift and move around your oblong shaped ornaments–instead of rubbing against them or possibly stressing them into breaking over the long year in the attic.

I place 1/2 sheet of tissue paper into each cubby, then an ornament, then lay an additional sheet of tissue paper on top.

Close-up the box and you have the perfect, most structurally sound box you’ll ever need for storing Christmas ornaments!
