These ingredients come together to create the ultimate soft and chewy cookie that’s packed with classic s’mores flavor. Unsalted butter gives the dough a rich, smooth base, while both brown sugar and white sugar bring sweetness and just the right amount of chew. A single egg helps bind everything together, and a splash of vanilla extract adds warm depth. All-purpose flour provides structure, with a touch of cornstarch for extra softness, baking soda for lift, and salt to balance the sweetness. Crushed graham crackers give that unmistakable s’mores crunch, semi-sweet chocolate chips and chunks of Hershey’s bars melt into gooey pools of goodness, and mini marshmallows add the perfect sticky finish that brings it all together.

  • Miniature marshmallows – Toast up just enough in the oven for that gooey, sweet finish.
  • Unsalted butter – Adds richness and moisture to create a soft, chewy texture.
  • Brown sugar – Provides a deep, caramel-like flavor and makes the cookies soft and chewy.
  • Sugar – Balances the brown sugar and helps the cookies spread just right.
  • Egg – Binds the ingredients together and helps give structure to the cookies.
  • Vanilla extract – Enhances the flavor and adds that warm, homemade taste.
  • All-purpose flour – Gives the cookies their shape and classic cookie texture.
  • Cornstarch – Creates a tender, melt-in-your-mouth bite.
  • Baking soda – Helps the cookies rise and gives a slight puffiness.
  • Salt – Balances the sweetness and enhances the flavors of every other ingredient.
  • Graham crackers – Adds crunch and that nostalgic s’mores flavor.
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips – Melty pockets of chocolate in every bite.
  • Hershey’s chocolate bars – Classic s’mores chocolate that brings the campfire vibe.

You’re going to love how effortlessly these ingredients come together to create something truly special. With just a few simple steps, you’ll end up with a dessert that tastes like it took hours.

Even better, this is the kind of recipe that lets you enjoy the process as much as the final result. It’s perfect for a cozy night in, a fun baking day with the kids, or just treating yourself to something sweet without any stress. Once you try it, you’ll want to make it again and again.

Tips for Baking Cookies That Use Marshmallows

Here are some helpful tips for baking cookies that use marshmallows:

  1. Chill the Dough: Marshmallows can melt quickly in the oven, so chilling your cookie dough before baking helps them hold their shape and prevents excessive spreading.
  2. Use Mini Marshmallows: Smaller marshmallows are easier to incorporate into the dough and melt more evenly, giving you that gooey texture without overwhelming the cookie.
  3. Tuck Marshmallows Inside: To avoid marshmallows burning on the edges, try tucking them into the center of the cookie dough balls before baking. This keeps them soft and gooey.
  4. Line Your Baking Sheet: Marshmallows can get sticky when they melt, so use parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to make cleanup a breeze.
  5. Watch the Bake Time: Keep a close eye on your cookies as they bake. Marshmallows can caramelize quickly, so pulling the cookies out just as the edges turn golden ensures the perfect texture.
  6. Add Marshmallows Mid-Bake: For an extra gooey finish, press a few marshmallows onto the tops of your cookies halfway through baking.
  7. Experiment with Flavors: Pair marshmallows with ingredients like chocolate, graham crackers, or even peanut butter to create irresistible flavor combinations.

With these tips, you’ll be baking marshmallow-filled cookies that are perfectly gooey, golden, and utterly delicious!

Tips for Baking Cookies That Use Chocolate Bar Pieces in the Ingredients

Here are some handy tips for baking cookies with chocolate bar pieces:

  1. Chop the Chocolate Strategically: Cut your chocolate bars into uneven chunks for a mix of small melty bits and larger gooey pockets of chocolate in every bite.
  2. Use High-Quality Chocolate: The better the chocolate, the better the flavor. Opt for your favorite chocolate bars to ensure a rich, indulgent taste.
  3. Fold Gently: When mixing chocolate bar pieces into your dough, fold them in gently to avoid breaking them down too much.
  4. Chill the Dough: Chilling the dough before baking helps prevent the chocolate from melting too quickly and keeps the cookies from spreading too much.
  5. Top with Extra Chocolate: For a bakery-style look, press a few chocolate bar pieces onto the tops of the cookies right before baking.
  6. Bake at the Right Temperature: A slightly lower oven temperature can help the chocolate melt slowly and evenly, creating those irresistible pools of chocolate.
  7. Let Them Cool Slightly: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes after removing them from the oven. This helps the chocolate set slightly while keeping the cookies soft and gooey.

With these tips, your cookies will be bursting with rich, melty chocolate goodness in every bite!

Are store brand ingredients just as good as name brand when you’re baking homemade cookies?

When it comes to baking homemade cookies, store-brand ingredients can often be just as good as name-brand options, depending on what you’re making and your personal preferences. Here are a few things to consider:

  1. Basics Are Usually Comparable: Ingredients like flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt are typically very similar across store and name brands. These pantry staples are often indistinguishable in the final product.
  2. Butter Matters: The quality of butter can impact the flavor and texture of your cookies. If you’re aiming for a rich, buttery taste, you might notice a difference between store-brand and premium name-brand butter.
  3. Chocolate Quality: When it comes to chocolate chips or bars, the quality can vary significantly. Name-brand chocolates often have a smoother texture and richer flavor, but some store brands can still deliver great results.
  4. Vanilla Extract: Pure vanilla extract tends to outperform imitation vanilla in terms of flavor, regardless of the brand. If you’re using a store brand, opt for pure vanilla for the best results.
  5. Price vs. Purpose: If you’re baking for a casual treat, store-brand ingredients can be a budget-friendly choice without sacrificing much quality. For special occasions or when flavor is key, you might want to splurge on name-brand or premium ingredients.

Ultimately, the choice between store-brand and name-brand ingredients comes down to your taste preferences, budget, and the role each ingredient plays in your recipe. A little experimenting can help you find the perfect balance!

Smores Cookie Recipe

Yield: 12-15
Prep Time: 25 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup (1 ½ sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (4 whole crackers) coarsely chopped graham crackers
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 ½ cups coarsely chopped Hershey’s chocolate bars
  • 1 miniature marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Line a large baking sheet with parchment or wax paper and set it aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture, beating until fully combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips, 1 cup of chopped chocolate bars, and marshmallows until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  6. Use a cookie scoop to portion the dough into balls. Press additional chopped chocolate bar pieces onto the tops of each dough ball for extra chocolatey goodness. Place the dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Cover the baking sheet with plastic wrap or foil and freeze the cookie dough for at least 2 hours or overnight. Freezing helps the cookies maintain a thicker shape while baking.
  8. When ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange the frozen cookie dough balls on the sheet, spacing them 1 to 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake the cookies for 10 minutes, then remove them from the oven. Leave the cookies on the baking sheet to cool completely, allowing the residual heat to finish baking them to perfection.
  10. Once cooled, store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.

Enjoy your delicious, gooey s’mores cookies!
