My younger kiddos love doing pattern block printables in our homeschool day. My four year old calls it his Math.

There are many great skills that are built when doing pattern block activities.
Do Pattern Block Mats Help with Problem Solving?
Yes, they do! When kids are using the geometric shapes to create they have to use problem solving skills to determine which shapes work to create other shapes, what will fit in a space, etc.
These are great for your math centers (if you are a teacher) or great for every day homeschool learning. They make great math manipulatives without focusing so obviously on numbers, adding, subtracting, etc.
Building Fine Motor Skills with Geometry
Building and creating with these shapes is a great way to work on Geometry. They are also great for colors and shapes recognition, they help children work on measurements, spacial awareness, and more.
We have a large bucket of plastic shapes that I ordered on Amazon, but you can certainly use the wood or foam shapes.
On these printable mats, I’ve includes two other skills your kiddos can work on. These are optional, but fun.
There is a space for them to trace the vocabulary word of the object they are making with the shape.
There are multiple star shapes to make but they all look different. Your little one will notice there are many different ways to make stars out of tangram shapes.

On the printable there is also a place for them to tally how many pieces of each shape was used to make the design on the mat. They can then all all of those numbers up and give the total number of blocks used for each creation.
I hope that you have lots of fun. Just print these out, grab your shapes and get to building.
Let your preschool try to extend the creation and make it larger or manipulate it a but with their own creative spin.
