Ingredients You’ll Need for These:

Here are the things you need to make these incredible donuts!

  • All-Purpose FlourAll-Purpose Flour is important for homemade donuts because it helps to create the right texture. The proteins in All-Purpose Flour will interact with the other ingredients in your batter to create a soft, but firm, donut.
  • Ground CinnamonGround cinnamon is a key ingredient in many fall favorites, including homemade donuts. This fragrant spice not only gives donuts a delicious flavor, but it also helps to balance out the sweetness of the sugar and dough.
  • Ground NutmegGround nutmeg is a key ingredient in homemade donuts, providing both flavor and color. When combined with cinnamon, ground nutmeg gives donuts a spicy flavor that is reminiscent of pumpkin pie.
  • SaltSalt is often used in baking as a flavor enhancer, and this is certainly true for homemade donuts. A small amount of salt helps to bring out the sweetness of the dough, and it also helps to offset any bitterness from the baking powder.
  • Baking PowderBaking powder actually contains several key ingredients that work together to help baked goods rise and become nice and fluffy.
  • Large EggsEggs provide structure and stability to the dough, helping it to rise and giving the donuts a light, fluffy texture.

  • Vegetable OilVegetable oil is necessary for homemade donuts because it helps to keep the donuts moist and prevents them from drying out. When donuts are fried in vegetable oil, the heat helps to seal in the moisture, keeping the donuts soft and delicious.
  • Powdered SugarPowdered sugar is important for homemade donuts because it helps to create a light, airy texture. When combined with flour and eggs, the sugar helps to trap in air bubbles, resulting in a fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth donut.
  • Pumpkin PureeWhile pumpkin puree can be substituted with other ingredients like canned pumpkin, pumpkin puree gives the donuts a rich flavor that compliments the spices typically used in donut recipes.
  • Whole MilkWhole milk is often used in homemade icing because it gives the icing a creamy consistency and rich flavor. Whole milk contains cream, which is a high-fat content that helps to thicken the icing and give it body.
  • Crushed WalnutsCrushed walnuts are a versatile ingredient that can add a delicious crunch to both sweet and savory dishes.

Which Flour is Best for Donuts?

When it comes to flour, there are a few different types that can be used for donuts. All-purpose flour is the most common type of flour used in baking, and it’s a good choice for donuts. This flour is made from a blend of different kinds of wheat and has a moderate amount of protein.

It’s also relatively inexpensive, which makes it a good option if you’re on a budget. However, all-purpose flour doesn’t always produce the lightest and fluffiest donuts.

If you’re looking for a more gourmet option, you can use pastry flour. This flour is made from soft wheat and has a lower protein content, which makes it ideal for tender pastries.

It’s also more expensive than all-purpose flour, so it’s not the best choice if you’re trying to save money. Ultimately, the best flour for donuts is the one that you have on hand and that suits your budget.

With a little trial and error, you’ll be able to find the perfect flour for your homemade donuts.

What is the Best Oil for Baked Donuts?

Baked donuts are a delicious treat that can be easily made at home. However, one of the most important steps in making homemade donuts is choosing the right oil.

There are a variety of oils that can be used for baking, but not all of them will produce the same results. For instance, olive oil has a strong flavor that can overwhelm the taste of the donut.

Canola oil, on the other hand, has a milder flavor that will allow the donut’s own flavor to shine through. In addition, oil with a high smoke point is ideal for baking, as it will prevent the oil from burning and giving the donuts an unpleasant taste.

With so many factors to consider, it can be difficult to choose the best oil for baked donuts. However, by taking the time to select the right oil, you can ensure that your homemade donuts are mouth-wateringly delicious.

Can You Make Donut Batter the Night Before?

Yes, you can make donut batter the night before. There are a couple of different ways to do this.

One way is to prepare the batter according to recipe, then refrigerate it overnight. The next morning, simply take it out of the fridge and let it come to room temperature before baking the donuts.

Another way to make donut batter ahead of time is to mix all of the dry ingredients together, then store them in an airtight container overnight. In the morning, you can add the wet ingredients and mix everything together and bake.

Either way, making donut batter ahead of time will save you some time in the morning.

Total Time: 1 hour 1 minute

The perfect pumpkin recipe for the fall season! These homemade donuts are baked, not fried, and then topped with a delicious icing and crushed walnuts. A must-try treat for pumpkin lovers!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • ½ Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 2 Large Eggs, room temperature
  • ¼ Cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • ¾ Cup Canned Pumpkin or Pumpkin Puree
  • 1 1/2 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 5 Teaspoon Whole Milk
  • ¼ Cup Crushed Walnuts

Instructions

To Make the Donuts:

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a donut pan (approximately 12.5 x 8 in, with each cavity being about 3.25 inches in diameter – for a standard donut) with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, sift together dry ingredients: flour, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, salt and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together oil, eggs, and powdered sugar. Mix until well-incorporated. Add pumpkin puree and mix some more.
  4. Slowly fold dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  5. Fill each section of the donut pan and bake for 14-16 minutes. You may have to work in batches depending on how many donuts your pans can hold at once.
  6. Once the donuts have baked, remove from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes. Remove donuts from pan and allow to cool completely on a wire rack, approximately 15-20 minutes. You will want the donuts to be completely cooled before glazing them.

To Make the Glaze:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together icing sugar and milk.
  2. Dip the top of each donut into the bowl of glaze and set back onto a surface lined with wax paper.
  3. Sprinkle with crushed nuts and allow to set. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

While making the glaze, add milk to the powdered sugar one teaspoon at a time. You don’t want it to be too runny. The consistency should be slightly thicker than white craft glue.
