Instant Pot Southern Stuffing Recipe

Sharing is caring!

I am so excited about this Instant Pot Southern Stuffing Recipe! It’s so much more simple than traditional stuffing recipes for Thanksgiving dinner! Just one bite of this stuffing recipe and you’ll see–just as fluffy and dense and perfect as if you baked it in the oven for hours.

One of the best things about making homemade dressing in your electric pressure cooker is how fast it comes together with a cook time of 20 minutes once it pressurizes.

Seriously, you just have to toss the ingredients together and press a button. Almost as easy as that microwave stuffing you make for that one weird cousin. LOL!

My favorite electric pressure cooker.

Southern Stuffing Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 C chicken broth or turkey broth
  • 1 C unsalted butter
  • 1 C celery (chopped)
  • 1/2 C crispy bacon (chopped)
  • 1/2 C dried cranberries
  • 1/4 C pecans (chopped)
  • 1 medium white onion (chopped)
  • 1 loaf white bread (cubed and toasted)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sage
  • 1 tsp garlic
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

How to Make Homemade Southern Stuffing in the Electric Pressure Cooker

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  2. Spread the cubed bread over the baking sheet and place in the oven for 20 minutes.
  3. Allow the cubed bread–now toast–to cool completely.
  4. Combine the broth, onion, celery and butter in a large sauce pan and simmer over medium heat until onions and celery are tender (about 5 minutes).
  5. Add salt, sage, garlic and pepper into the butter mixture and stir well.
  6. Place bread into a large bowl.
  7. Fold in the bacon, cranberries and pecans into the bread.
  8. Pour the butter mixture over the bread mixture and stir until well combined.
  9. Prepare a baking dish (I recommend corning ware, but anything it’s safe to put in an electric pressure cooker is fine) by spraying liberally with baking spray or even rubbing butter around the sides and bottom.
  10. Place stuffing batter into the prepared baking dish.
  11. Cover with foil and poke a hole in the center of the foil.
  12. Make a foil sling by folding an 18-inch foil strip  lengthwise twice to help with lifting the baking dish out of the Instant Pot.
  13. Place 1 1/2 cups of water into the inner pot, followed by a trivet.
  14. Center your baking dish on the prepared foil sling and lower the baking dish into the pot. Be sure to fold the loose foil sling handles down so that you can close the lid easily.
  15. Close and lock the lid, then set it to pressure cook for 15 minutes on High Pressure.
  16. Quick pressure release.
  17. Can be served immediately, but if you’d like a little crispy edge, bake in the oven for 5-10 minutes at 350 degrees.
  18. Enjoy!

Oh and a couple of quick questions I’ve gotten that I wanted to share:

How Long Does Homemade Stuffing Last?

I wouldn’t recommend leaving it out on the counter. You can’t really rely on a dish like that being safe to eat after sitting out too long. Just trust me. So, keep your Instant Pot stuffing in the fridge. Just put it in an airtight container, so you can trust that it won’t dry out.

In the fridge, you can expect your stuffing can last 12-14 days without any worries. Just cut out a chunk, pop it in the microwave and you’re good to go.

Can You Freeze Homemade Stuffing

Absolutely! Just pop it in the airtight container we talked about before and then into the freezer. You can expect your dressing to last at least 3-5 months that way. If you plan on serving it in individual servings, you need to cut it into servings before you freeze. Then it’s easy to just pull it out, microwave and enjoy!
