NEED TO SAVE MONEY
ON YOUR GROCERY BILL?
- Unsalted Butter– Unsalted butter is the perfect base for this seasonal favorite because it allows the pumpkin flavor to shine. Plus, it gives you complete control over the saltiness of your icing. You don’t want to overdo it with the salt and risk masking the rich pumpkin taste.
- Pumpkin Puree– Using pumpkin puree will take any buttercream from basic to bold. The puree gives a depth and richness to the frosting that you just can’t achieve with pumpkin spice alone.
- Pumpkin Pie Spice– Adding a dash of pumpkin pie spice takes it to a whole new level of deliciousness. These spices enhance the natural sweetness and earthiness of pumpkin and create a unique, complex flavor profile. When mixed into a silky buttercream, the flavors meld together, creating the ultimate fall dessert.
- Powdered Sugar– Powdered sugar (also known as icing sugar or confectioner’s sugar, depending on your location) has a finer texture than granulated sugar. This means it dissolves more easily and creates a smoother consistency in the icing. Plus, it has a lower water content than granulated sugar, which means it helps the icing hold its shape better.

What is the Difference Between Buttercream Frosting and Buttercream Icing?
Have you ever been confused by the terms “buttercream frosting” and “buttercream icing”? Well, you’re not alone! Many people use these terms interchangeably, but there is actually a difference between the two.
Buttercream frosting is a light and fluffy mixture of butter, powdered sugar, and milk or cream. It’s perfect for decorating cakes and cupcakes and has a smooth, almost whipped consistency. Buttercream icing, on the other hand, is a slightly thicker mixture of butter, powdered sugar, and a small amount of milk or cream.
It’s great for spreading on cookies or filling between cake layers. So the next time you’re making a dessert and can’t decide which one to use, now you know the difference!
What’s the Best Way to Store Buttercream Icing?
Buttercream icing is undoubtedly delicious, but if you don’t store it correctly, it can quickly go bad. So, what’s the best way to keep your frosting fresh and tasty? The simplest solution is to put it in an airtight container and place it in the refrigerator. That way, you can be sure that it will stay fresh for several days, even up to a week or two.
If you’re planning on using it within a day or two, then you can leave it at room temperature. However, be sure to keep it away from direct heat and sunlight, or it could start to melt. The bottom line is that no matter how you store it, make sure to use buttercream icing within a reasonable amount of time to avoid any risk of spoilage.
How Long Does Buttercream Icing Last After You Make It?
Buttercream icing is the perfect addition to any baked goods, but it can be tricky to store properly. So, how long does it last after you make it? Well, the answer may surprise you. Generally, if stored in an airtight container in the fridge, buttercream icing can last up to 2 weeks.
However, if you’re not planning on using it within that timeframe, you may want to consider freezing it. Yes, you heard me right. Buttercream icing can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months without sacrificing the taste or quality. So, the next time you find yourself with leftover icing, don’t let it go to waste. Store it properly and enjoy it for weeks to come.
